This week is really different to the rest of the steps in this quest so far. I think Bungie may have been looking at some of the feedback for Invitation of the Nine and decided to spice things up a bit for the final weeks to really keep every Guardian on their toes. As always the Invitation of the Nine will set you back nine Legendary Shards, so dismantle three Legendaries and get this item. Don’t worry if you missed Xur this week, he’s going to be back next week and you can pick up from where you left off with step nine in the quest.

For week 9 you actually need to enlist the help of some other Guardians, and not because you need to take on an incredibly difficult raid. This week you must complete three Quickplay, Rumble, and Competitive matches in the Crucible.

When this quest step originally came out it was possible to jump into Quickplay and get into a Rumble match to tick off both a Rumble and a Quickplay match simultaneously. This is a really fast way to progress through the quest, but if it’s since been patched out then unfortunately you’ll need to go ahead and do nine separate matches.

If you really hate PVP this will be better with friends, and if you love PVP it’ll still be good with friends, so it’s a win-win situation. Rumble is a free for all mode in which you just kill all other Guardians. Think of it as deathmatch from Halo, and you’ll be on the right track. Quickplay is just a playlist in the Crucible director that places you into matches quickly. These matches don’t tend to be too taxing in terms of length or skill so you should be able to smash through three of them with very few problems. Competitive is also a playlist in the Crucible director. It’s a harder Crucible playlist that tends to put you into matches of Elimination or Countdown, in which you place or defend against a team placing bombs.

Once you’ve completed all of these matches it’s time to head to the Gambit director.

Mystery and Potential

In the Gambit director, under the Reckoning node, you’ll see a new node for Mystery and Potential. Head there and go through the portal as you would normally do for Reckoning. You’ll be in the Flawless area from Trials of the Nine, and you’ll see a giant Emissary. Talk to the Emissary and watch the vision to see a glimpse of a future enemy.

If you’ve seen this cutscene you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about, and I’m pretty sure it’s the Darkness finally coming for the Traveler. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
