What Black Magic Keeps Breaking Telesto in Destiny 2?

This weapon has never worked, and never will.

Telesto is a broken weapon. There’s no denying it. It’s so broken in fact, that it broke again at the start of this year. Somehow, this weapon keeps on giving with its absolutely insane issues. Some of them feel like they were added deliberately because they’re that crazy. Recently, as in Season of the Splicer recently, the weapon broke again, though it’s not entirely its own fault. In this article, I want to analyze exactly why this weapon keeps breaking and hopefully understand just why Bungie is always on the back foot with it.

It’s a Mod

The most recent issue with Telesto wasn’t actually down to the weapon itself busting. It was a Mod. It’s built into the Seasonal Artifact for Season of the Splicer, Energy Accelerant. It only cost two energy and could slot right into your class item. The idea was that it would buff damage from Dragonfly, Firefly, and Chain Reaction perks. For the most part, it worked. But then someone used Telesto.

For some reason, Destiny 2’s code decided that Telesto’s bolts count as one of these perks, and doubled the damage the weapon dealt during one of the early Trials of Osiris weekends for the season. It was carnage. Absolute savagery that made no bloody sense. Guardians were literally laughing as they mowed down enemies in every match, making for some very frustrating gameplay.

The mod actually did the same for Symmetry, Sunshot, and Graviton Lance, so Bungie removed it. It’s a good thing too because it was awful for a second there.

The Bolts

I reckon that the reason Telesto in particular keeps on breaking like this is because it’s so unique. It’s got bolts that fire out and detonate after a delay. Very few other weapons in Destiny 2 have a feature like this, but I’d wager that if you tested them, they’d have similar issues. It’s just easier to pull off the glitches with Telesto because it’s the most prominent broken weapon in the game. With that said, it’s still a brilliant weapon to use and can really take your game up a notch if you try hard enough with it.

Let us know if you love this broken Exotic, or if you’ve had enough of it and want it removed, in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
