Did Bungie Know how Popular the Baby Eliksni Would be in Destiny 2?

How did they know these cute little babes would be an icon for the community?

Fallen Babies are the Cutest and Most Dangerous Thing in Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer

When the first trailer for Season of the Splicer was released, it featured a lot of interesting stuff. Chief among the most intriguing points were the Baby Eliksni though. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never given much thought to the reproductive cycle of the Fallen. I just shoot them. Now though, I’m massively invested in these babies, and what they represent for the community. However, I’m also now wondering if Bungie somehow knew how popular these guys would be, or if they just lucked out.

The trailer for Season of the Splicer really doesn’t shine much like on the Baby Eliksni. They’re a footnote in a very packed trailer that’s far more focused on activities and the story than it is on the tiny children of those aliens you’ve been murdering for years. Of course, the Eliksni are different from all other Fallen, as every Fallen House is, so it doesn’t feel like we’ve been killing parents for that long.

Bungie clearly knew that showing the babies off was important. That’s why there’s a small portion of the trailer that highlights them. It makes us feel empathy for them, creatures that we’d otherwise just shoot in a heartbeat. I’d rather kill every Fallen I can see just in case one of them is going to kill me later. I hate leaving them alive. These babies have me thinking everything through over and over again, and it feels weird.

I think, to some degree, Bungie knew exactly what the community response to the Eliksni Babies would be. But I don’t think they had a full plushie already in the works. This is a product that you can sign up for updates on from the Bungie Store. It’s so new that I don’t think production has even started. Designs are probably still being finalized. That’s how you know Bungie reacted quickly on this.

One last thing I want to add is that the quality of these plushies shows how good the team on the Bungie Store is. To produce a render so quickly, and now have it in pre-production, is a testament to the developers of this game. Let us know if you’re buying one in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
