One Guardian Has Created a UI Design for a Destiny 2 Loadout System

A simple method to swap between gear sets.

There’s a huge gap in the systems and mechanics in Destiny 2. This gap won’t be obvious to everyone, but I guarantee that all of you have felt it at some point while playing. The lack of a loadout system. It’s a system that makes it easy to swap between your favorite gear sets, but there’s nothing like it in Destiny 2. Finally, one Guardian has had enough, and they’ve made their own mock up of how the system would look and feel in Destiny 2’s UI. I love it, and I think Bungie should take it and implement it in the game.

Destiny 2 needs a loadout system because of the sheer number of weapons and armor pieces in it now. With sunsetting being removed, there will be even more as time goes on. Add in the fact that you now have Destiny 2 transmog, and there are even more combinations of gear sets with Ornaments to consider. You could spend an hour each time you sit down with the game just deciding what your Guardian will be using.

This is where a loadout system would come in. You’d have a set number of slots to fill with a loadout. Once you’re happy with a loadout, you can save it. Then, you can swap out gear to create a new loadout, and instantly swap back to the other one whenever you want to from the menu. You can alraedy sort of do this by swapping gear quickly enough, so there’s no real reason that you shouldn’t be able to do it with loadouts. Check out the UI designs from morpheusbtw on Reddit below.

In the above, you can see the basic UI layout. You’ve got two loadouts and an arrow for more. The one you have equipped is the one with the green triangle in the top left-hand corner. Very simple, very sleek, and fitting with the rest of the UI in Destiny 2.

In this second image, you can see that the contents of a loadout will be displayed by hovering over it. This is incredibly handy, because you’ll never remember what weapons you have equipped if you’re just looking at the armor. I think here would also be a good place to show the true armor underneath any Ornaments, just to make it even clearer.

This final image is the second page of the loadout screen. I think it’s fine to have three, but I’d maybe push it to four. One for each subclass. That way you can have four subclass specific builds and nothing more. It’s down to you if you want to gear them towards PvE or PvP.

Let us know if you like this system design in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.

There is an app to do this actually! It’s available in all stores, just search for Destiny Two. There are loadouts you can make for all your guardians, and you can even pull gear you’ve stored in the Towers Banks.
