Why Would Osiris Choose The Darkness?
Earlier this week we explored why Rasputin might side with the Darkness, and why Rasputin might side with the forces of Light. Here’s the thing though, we’re looking at this new cutscene from the perspective of Osiris being an all out good guy, but what if he isn’t?

Why Would Osiris Choose To Side With The Forces Of Darkness?
In this new cutscene we see Osiris striding towards Rasputin’s terminal with a weapon, and he is pissed off. The thing is, we don’t know if he’s pissed off because Rasputin has sided with the forces of Light, or the forces of Darkness. If he’s sided with the forces of Darkness, in whatever future Osiris has seen, then it makes sense for Osiris to be angry. If however, Rasputin has sided with the Light, and Osiris is angry about that, it doesn’t look good for those of us who want to side with the Light as well.
Osiris may have seen a future in which the Darkness comes, and they defeat us all. They may claim the Traveler for their own, stealing its power, and ultimately taking control of the universe. Osiris may want this to happen though, whether it’s for the good of a future that he’s seen beyond the Darkness coming, or because he’s secretly an evil dude.
Most Guardians are convinced that Osiris is good, but the thing we all need to remember is that he serves the ultimate good, whatever the cost. His ideals got him kicked out of the Vanguard, and with good reason some might say. Osiris is able to look into the future and see what the best possible outcome for humanity is, but that might also mean that the Darkness has to come and take the Traveler before the ultimate good can come about.
The Red War was necessary for Guardians to unlock more of their power in Light. Cayde-6’s death was required for Guardians to ultimately end up saving Saint-14. Everything that has happened in Destiny 2 up until now has been required for us to get where we are, so maybe Osiris wants Rasputin to allow the Darkness to take the Traveler and its power before the real good can be brought about.
This is a complex area to be thinking about for Destiny lore, but I also think it’s fairly simple. Osiris is a pretty good guy, he just has questionable motives. What side do you think he’ll take in the coming war? Let us know in the comments.

Who actually believes he sided. It was Rasputin. He has direct communication to the fleet of pyramif ships, and in the end of the cutscene he even says, “I can explain.” Like he did something wrong
