Why Would Rasputin Choose Light?

Yesterday we looked at the reasons that Rasputin may join the forces of darkness in the coming war in Destiny 2. Today we’re going to look at the reasons that the Warmind might actually choose to side with Guardians, and the forces of Light in general. Of course the biggest ally would be the Traveler, but is that enough?

A couple of days ago we looked at the reasons that Rasputin may join the forces of darkness in the coming war in Destiny 2. Today we’re going to look at the reasons that the Warmind might actually choose to side with Guardians, and the forces of Light in general. Of course the biggest ally would be the Traveler, but is that enough?

Why Would Rasputin Choose The Forces Of Light?

As a Warmind, Rasputin is duty-bound to protect humanity. The remnants of humanity all live under the protection of the Traveler, so it would make sense for Rasputin to side with the forces of Light. when you take into account that a large portion of humanity are also now Guardians, who have Light inside of them, it only makes sense for Rasputin to team up with them. The Warmind could see Light as an impurity within certain humans, but if we go down that route there are a number of other imperfections it could have an issue with.

Rasputin is the ultimate machine, built for defending Earth against threats from beyond. As such, it should be equipped with some really powerful weapons. It would make sense for Rasputin to then team up with another superpower, because the two combined could only offer better protection to the planet, Humanity, and ultimately the location where Rasputin is housed. The Traveler is a huger powerhouse, and it showed that by defeating the Red Legion at the end of the main campaign in Destiny 2. If Rasputin is going to team up with anything in Destiny 2 for the combined power, it’s going to be the Traveler. However, this giant ball did attract the forces of the Darkness in the first place, so there’s a good argument for avoiding the Traveler.

Rasputin is called an “old friend” by Osiris in that new cutscene we got last week. Osiris, and a number of other Guardians, must then know Rasputin, and have been working with it for years and years. With that in mind, it would only make sense for Rasputin to team up with its old allies instead of seeking out new ones in the form of the Darkness.

Rasputin is a big unknown. It’s a machine that has gone rogue, serving itself, and we don’t know what it wants. The motives of Rasputin will determine what events occur in Destiny 2, and could force us all to choose a side. On the other hand, Osiris is also a big unknown. Yes, he serves the Light, but sometimes the ultimate path to good is paved with death. IS Osiris the one we need to be questioning instead of the Warmind Rasputin then?

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
