The Second Season Of Dawn Lore Story Shows A Dark Future

Bungie’s second chapter of lore for Season of Dawn has completely messed me up. Yesterday I gave you my thoughts on the first chapter, which sets the scene for the season in a relatively calm way compared to this one, and today I’m going to go through this second chapter. Bungie’s second chapter of lore for Season of Dawn has completely messed me up. Yesterday I gave you my thoughts on the first chapter, which sets the scene for the season in a relatively calm way compared to this one, and today I’m going to go through this second chapter. Read the whole thing for yourself here.

The lore chapter opens up with Osiris doing what he’s always doing, opening a portal to The Infinite Forest in order to send a bunch of Echoes in and explore a million new timelines.

On a side note, this scene makes me wonder if Osiris ever sleeps. The guy is perpetually exploring The Infinite Forest, sending Echoes in to live through the various timelines. I wonder if he’s still living the day that he started diving into portals, and we’re all just moments of that day. It would explain why he’s such an odd dude, and why he built a mad time machine.

Anyway, back to the point. Osiris is going about his business, but then ends up seeing a dark future of total nothingness. The Last City is gone, all the stars have gone out, and the Traveler has been turned to dust. This is a super frightening future for everyone, and I really don’t want to see it happen.

The future has been caused by our actions in destroying the Undying Mind. Something about that beast of a Vex boss dying has fractured time on Mercury, creating an extremely dark future. Apparently, according to the trailer for Season of Dawn, everything is centred around the death of Saint-14.

What the end of everything has to do with Saint-14 isn’t clear to me, but it’s clearly all linked. Hopefully Osiris will reveal why the point when Saint-14 dies is the origin point for the end of Humanity in Season of Dawn, because playing through the season without that knowledge would be awful.

The only thing I can think of, is that Saint-14 was killed by The Undying Mind, which is why he’s back, but also why Humanity has been destroyed. The Undying Mind must have killed something big that would otherwise take the Traveler from us.

Let me know what you think in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
