Xur Location Destiny 2 – December 8th to 12th

This week is the first time the Exotic vendor Xur has arrived in Destiny 2 post-launch of the first Expansion, the Curse of Osiris. Does this mean he’ll bring four new items that are all from the latest DLC? Or does it mean he’ll be packing some Exotic items from the base game that many of us have already and aren’t excited about in any way? Let’s find out.

The Exotic Weapon Xur has brought is indeed from Destiny 2’s first expansion, and it’s one that causing a lot of fuss right not, Prometheus Lens. The Trace Rifle can be purchased for 29 Legendary Shards, it has Impact of 6, which is dreadfully measly, Range of 64, Stability of 50, Handling of 42, and a Reload Speed of 46. The hidden stats are a Zoom of 16, aim Assistance of 100, and Recoil Direction of 90.

The Exotic Perk is Prismatic Inferno, which fires a Solar Trace Beam that creates an ever-growing fiery aura around the target while they’re being shot. Chambered Compensator increases Stability, moderately controls Recoil, and slightly decreases Handling Speed. Projection Fuse increases Range, while Flame Reaction return ammo to the magazine for each kill, increasing beam duration. Finally the Composite Stock slightly increases Stability and Handling Speed.

This week Hunters can get some Chest Armour, The Dragon’s Shadow. This armour slightly increases Mobility but greatly increases Resilience. The Exotic Perk Wraithmetal Mail grants increases movement and weapon handling after a dodge. This sounds perfect for the way I play as a Hunter, though those who like to hold back and kill from afar may not see the point.

Titans can pick up the MK.44 Stand Aside Leg Armour, which Guardians can use to increase either Mobility or Resilience. The Exotic Perk Seriously, Watch Out, grants and overshield while sprinting with Seismic Strike, Hamer Strike, or Shield Bash equipped. Any hit with these abilities recharge health. Again, this armour is perfect for those who want to run in and get stuck into the fight, those who enjoy fighting from afar should leave it alone.

Warlocks can get the Exotic Helmet, Nazarec’s Sin. This thing looks mental and would scare the crap out of any enemy. The Exotic Perk Abyssal Extractors, increase ability recharge rates when you make kills with Void damage. It also increases either Resilience or Recovery. As I’ve said with the last two pieces of armour this is all about being in the heat of the fight, don’t bother unless you’re collecting if you fight from afar.

All of these are well worth buying if you want to keep up that collection, but if you want one that makes a difference to your play style then maybe just consider the Prometheus Lens. This thing is a beats for good reason, and Bungie is even nerfing it because of how great it is. Even once the weapon is changed I guarantee it’ll still be good enough to help out everywhere, but especially in the Crucible. If you’re not sure that’s true, just remember the only other Trace Rifle in the game, Coldheart, is also a superpower that can boost your Destiny elo.

Goodbye Destiny Loot Grind

Luke Smith has been talking about the loot grind in Destiny, specifically how it’s going to disappear in Destiny 2 in favour of a much fairer system for both players and developers.

Currently in Destiny we have a situation called the Loot Grind. What this boils down to is hammering away at every single activity until Guardians get Engrams to take back to the Cryptarch and decode. At the moment these Engrams could be anything depending on whether they’re rare or legendary. Most players prefer a legendary Engram for the loot it provides. This legendary loot could then be something that the Guardian already owns, but the grind teaches us that it might have slightly better stats, and that’s what we’re all after.

Of course we also now have infusion, the process through which a player can upgrade gear and weapons with other gear and weapons of a higher Light level by combining them. This means that once players find some gear they really like, they can continually upgrade that gear as they earn other items of higher Light levels. While this is a system that solves the problem of wanting to have those perfect stats on your best gear, it’s problematic for Bungie.

For example, if a particular weapon with a certain set of stats, which can be re-rolled, has a superior edge in the Crucible, Bungie need to correct the advantage in order to keep the game fair for everyone. However, correcting the imbalance requires Bungie to change the stats for all of a certain type of weapon, because no one weapon can be singled out.

In Destiny 2 this is all changing. Each piece of gear, armour, and weapon is handcrafted to have specific stats and work in a certain way. This means that you’re never looking for a better version of Clever Dragon, you’re just looking to up the Light level. For Bungie, this means that if a weapon is overpowered or imbalanced, they can just tweak it in an update, or tweak a few other weapons to match it.

This might not sound like a huge change to the game, but for Bungie it is. Now the updates they push out don’t need to nerf all of a type of weapon, they just need to nerf that one pesky weapon that’s getting in the way. This frees Bungie developers up to focus on important things, such as loot caves, the placement of collectables, and making Raids as awesome as possible.

Playstation Exclusive Exotic Borealis

Among the exclusive content coming to Playstation 4 Guardians in Destiny 2 is an exclusive Strike, armour set for each class, PVP map, and of course this little weapon called Borealis.

Borealis is an exotic Sniper Rifle that’s only on Playstation 4 for a limited time, so grinding for it is recommended so you can gloat for the maximum amount of time possible. But what’s so exotic about this Sniper Rifle? And what could it help you do if you were to head out and use it in activities?

The exotic perk of this weapon, though it isn’t officially defined yet, is that you can swap between Arc, Solar, and Void damage. Not only are you able to swap between the different types of elemental damage, you can do this on the fly. From the trailer it appears as though you can press a button and it will cycle the weapon to the next type of damage, though that isn’t confirmed and could be very clever editing instead.

However you’re able to swap between the damage types it’s just impressive that you can. In Destiny 1 the House of Wolves update added a Fusion Rifle that you could swap out to have the range of a Sniper Rifle, with slightly different charging times, called Queenbreaker’s Bow. This weapon completely changed how you thought about killing enemies, and made it so that you wouldn’t need to swap between a number o weapons.

Can you imagine how useful a Sniper Rifle that can deal all three types of damage will be? The modifiers that are applied to every heroic activity will no longer bother you, as you chop and change your elements to take down the Ultras and deal the most damage possible in any given event, whether that’s a Raid, a Strike, or even just a daily mission. To top it off, you can infuse it to keep up with the highest Light levels and avoid ever needing to leave it behind for something more powerful.

This is just the perk we know about, there could be more. I imagine that Firefly won’t be available on the weapon, purely because that would be incredibly devastating when combined with the element swapping. It feels like it would need a bonus to Agility however, because Sniper Rifles are hard to stop and aim with when you have all kinds of enemies hunting you down fro all directions.

Sunshot, Sweet Business, and Riskrunner – Some of the Exotic Weapons in Destiny 2

Destiny has a whole pile of Exotic weapons for Guardians to gather, horde, and barely use in all of the activities the game has to offer. Destiny 2 will be no different, and now we have the opportunity to check out three of the Exotic weapons coming with Destiny 2. These weapons were class exclusive in the Destiny 2 reveal event but there’s no confirmation as to whether they are specifically class exclusive. The classes mentioned below are the ones that simply held the exotic weapon to give you an idea if they are class exclusive.

Sunshot – Hunter Exotic Hand Cannon

Obviously Hunters get the Hand Cannon, that’s just the class they belong with and you can’t really argue with that. This gun is Solar powered, which should also be obvious given the name. The weapons deals 200 damage, at the moment anyway because we don’t know about the infusion process if there even is one. The weapon also fires 150 rounds per minute, which sounds more like a machine gun but it definitely isn’t, and that fact alone makes it awesome.

The perks for this weapon are Sunburn, which produces explosive rounds that are said to highlight targets, and Sunshot, which makes enemies explode in Solar energy. I can’t really get my head around just how good this is going to be in PVP. Here you have a way to highlight your enemies, and there are explosive rounds going off as standard. Couple that with an explosion every time you kill an enemy, and you’ve got team kills stacking up in your mind already.

Sweet Business – Titan Exotic Auto Rifle

This exotic Auto Rifle sounds like it’s Void powered, but it could as easily just be Kinetic which is just fine. The weapon deals 200 damage and fires 360 rounds per minute, which is pretty phenomenal and worthy of an exotic weapon.

The perks for this weapon are Payday, which increases the hip fire accuracy as well as the total ammunition its magazine, and a Placeholder perk that currently isn’t named, but it boosts the rate of fire and range when you hold down the trigger. Additionally any ammunition that is picked up will be automatically loaded into the magazine.

Riskrunner – Warlock Exotic SMG

This SMG also does 200 damage, but it fires 360 rounds per minute, just under the Auto Rifle Sweet Business which is nothing to be shunned. This weapon seems like it does Arc damage, so it may be that it doesn’t just belong in the Kinetic Weapons slot. As the first exotic SMG we’re getting a look at, this is pretty awesome.

The perks for this gun are Arc Conductor, which increases the weapon’s damage when you take Arc damage, and another unnamed perk which works alongside Ar Conductor, giving bullets a chance to become chain lightning when the other perk is active.

These exotic weapons look pretty great and are a good start to what I’m sure is just an entire mountain of elusive loot to chase after.

This week if you’re looking for Xur you need look no further than the Tower. Head straight down from spawn, all the way into the Hall of Vanguard. If you get to the big table in the middle you’ve gone too far. Instead, make your way up to the balcony, the right hand side specifically, and you’ll find Xur lurking around behind of the wings there.

Exotic Weapon: MIDA Multi-Tool (Exotic Scout Rifle) 23 Strange Coins

This is a weapon of legends we have to be honest. As a scout rifle it’s got superb qualities for those who want to fire fast or slow. The gun was used to source the hidden chests in the Vault of Glass, though of course it’s hidden perk of being able to find these chests is now a subject of much debate. The first listed perk, MIDA Multi-Tool, boosts movement speed and makes the weapon fire on a hair trigger. Third Eye, the second perk, allows your radar to be visible when aiming down sights, part of how it was used to track certain hidden chests.

Exotic Chest Armour: Twilight Garrison (Titan class) 13 Strange Coins

If you’ve ever wanted it to look like you’ve got a massive eye at the top centre of your chest, this is the armour for you. The exotic perk, Tactical Air Support, allows you to evade while in mid-air. This is a great perk for Titans as they can hover in mid-air, and having the ability to dodge as well will make for interesting Crucible takedowns.

Exotic Chest Armour: Voidfang Vestments (Warlock Class) 13 Strange Coins

This Chest Armour has been available from Xur before, but that makes it no less exotic so it’s always worth a gander if you don’t have it. The exotic perk, Hungering Void, allows Guardians to spawn with full grenade energy for their Axion Bolt grenade, and spawns an additional seeker.

Exotic Gauntlets: Don’t Touch Me (Hunter Class) 13 Strange Coins

When you run Crota’s End, because we know everyone will have to run it again at least once for that record book and the sweet loot, these can be priceless. The perk, Defensive Reflex, makes you briefly invisible when you take melee damage from enemies. I can’t begin to tell you how important it is to be invisible when taking down Crota, as the Swordbearing duty often falls to a Hunter. Furthermore, in Prison of Elders, the invisibility can help you avoid destruction at the hands of Skolas should you choose to take him on.

Zhalo Supercell and Shock Hazard: (weapon Bundle) 30 Strange Coins and 25 Silver Dust

Maybe try a different route for the ornament if you already have the weapon, but honestly the Zhalo Supercell is a superior weapon, which you should buy if you’re looking to purchase a bundle.

Monte Carlo and Royal Flush: (weapon Bundle) 30 Strange Coins and 25 Silver Dust

We will always say that it’s better to try to get the ornaments from treasures every week, or from the Silver Dust store. Monte Carlo however, is a great weapon and worth your time if you’ve got the spare currencies.

Our Take

The MIDA Multi-Tool is a really great weapon, but Don’t Touch Me are also some of the best Gauntlets available for Hunters. As we suggest with many weeks though, you should look at your record book and decide what you need in order to complete it, because there won’t be enough Xur visits to ensure you pick up everything before the time is up. Whatever your main character is, the MIDA Multi-Tool is a fast and reliable weapon with which it’s hard to go wrong.

How Good Is The Trespasser?

This week Xur is sporting the Trespasser, a truly fantastic exotic weapon for a number of reasons, but should you buy it, and how good is it?

As an exotic Sidearm Trespasser is one of only 2 such items in Destiny, both of which are pretty incredible. Sidearms are meant to be whipped out after you’ve shot the crap out of a target with your primary, but not enough to kill them and bring them down.

Trespasser sport Arc energy, which can be useful for a number of activities, particularly those that have heroic modifiers such as the new 390 Light Raids and Heroic or Nightfall Strikes.

The first exotic perk, Be The Danger, makes the weapon fire bursts instead of single bullets. This makes for huge damage dealing from a sidearm, and you’ll see that when you use it. A second perk Relentless Tracker, enhanced motion tracker resolution with each kill. Already here we have increased damage dealt, though some recoil control may be required, and with each kill you’re tracking the enemy with more and more efficiency.

Now we add another perk, Unrepentant, which causes a superburst the next time you fire, if you reload straight after a kill. This superburst does even more damage, and makes short work of most enemies, especially those weak to Arc damage.

With all of these perks taken into consideration, it’s not hard to see where this weapon would be most useful. In terms of PVE it’s Strikes where the weapon finds its home. Lots of enemies ganging up on you can be incredibly overwhelming, when you’re primary magazine runs out this thing is your best friend, clearing space around and in front of you.

When it comes to PVP you need fast weapons, and Trespasser is the definition of fast. Whatever you’re running as your primary there’s a good chance you won’t be able to kill every Guardian you see. Trespasser can be whipped out in an instant and deal more than enough damage to finish off an enemy. The enhanced motion tracking will also help you maintain a decent aim while you run after and finish off this enemy, and superbursts could help you get team kills in Trials of Osiris.

Head left from spawn and all the way down those stairs because you’re going to see the Speaker, or at least look at him. Stop outside the entrance to his chamber and turn around because Xur is lurking right there in front of that big old door.

Exotic Weapon: Trespasser (Exotic Sidearm) 17 Strange Coins

This week it’s a golden oldie, which is only because the weapon was offered up to Guardians by Xur the week before Rise of Iron launched. This is one of only two Exotic Sidearms and for that fact alone it’s worth having. The first exotic perk, Relentless Tracker, grants increased motion tracker resolution after kills. The second, Be The Danger, makes the weapon fire bursts of bullets instead of single shots. Finally, Unrepentant, gives you a superburst the next time you fire if you reload right after a kill.

Exotic Gauntlets: Immolation Fists (Titan class) 13 Strange Coins

I can’t look at these without being impressed, they’re just so cool. On top of that, the first exotic perk, Accelerant, unlocks the subclass node Explosive Pyre for Sunbreakers without it taking up a class slot. Any enemies you kill with your hammer will explode and chain fire damage to other enemies. The second exotic perk, Rain Blows, increases melee attack speed. I don’t have to tell you how special it is to get a class ability for free, just because of this these are worth getting. 

Exotic Helmet: Obsidian Mind (Warlock Class) 13 Strange Coins

This helmet looks so dark that I don’t think light can escape it. The exotic perk, Insatiable, makes Nova Bomb kills reduce the cooldown of your next Nova Bomb. Since Nova Bombs are huge enough that they can kill whole groups of enemies, it’s always worth having more of them. 

Exotic Helmet: Knucklehead Radar (Hunter Class) 13 Strange Coins

This helmet is great for making the enemy think you’ve got either three eyes, or can’t see at all thanks to that target on your face. Anyway, the first exotic perk, Sensor Pack, means that your radar remains active while aiming down sights on primary weapons. The second, Inverse Shadow, increases super energy gained from killing minions of the Darkness. The ability to have your radar up while aiming is almost invaluable, trust me when I say you should seriously consider buying this.

Invective and Storm’s Reproach: (weapon Bundle) 30 Strange Coins and 25 Silver Dust

Invective is really a fantastic weapon. A special weapon that regenerates ammo over time, making it great for both PVE and PVP. Ornaments can be purchased at all times, but Invective is only on sale when Xur offers it. Check out our thoughts on Invective to help your decision.

Our Take

Well, this week is a pretty good week if you’re a newcomer to Destiny. Trespasser is a great Exotic weapon, and given that it’s one of the only Sidearms that’s exotic it’s almost definitely worth having for that alone. There’s also some really great exotic armour, depending on what class your main character is, but above all of it you should be keen to purchase Immolation fists. A free class ability is nothing to turn your nose up at. Keep an eye out for our take on Trespasser later this weekend. 

How Good Is The SUROS Regime?

The SUROS Regime was recently on sale from Xur during his last brief visit to the Tower. While many of you may have purchased it to boost your collection in order to achieve that Age of Triumph record book stamp, you might not know what you now have sitting in your inventory.

The main perk of the SUROS Regime is SUROS Legacy. This perk grants additional damage to the bottom half of each magazine. If you get a kill with this second half of the magazine you also have a chance to regenerate health. What this results in is you blasting out half the magazine before you’ve seen anything, in PVP at least. In PVE this weapon may grant you some health in a clutch moment, but it’s PVP where it exceeds. That additional damage will mean you get the kill before your opponent, and you’ll probably get a decent health buff if they’ve been aiming at your head. Having the advantage in one on one fights in PVP is so important, and that’s why this gun is extremely viable for all Crucible matches.

Other set perks include Spinning Up, which causes the weapon to be fired faster the longer the trigger is held. Thunderlord also comes with this perk, and it’s really great to see in action, bolstering the weapon’s capabilities in PVP even further. This perk can be switched out for Focused Fire, which slows the rate of fire when zooming in on targets, conversely increasing damage dealt at the same time. This one can feel a bit counter-intuitive, but if you’re a Guardian who enjoys firing down a scope then this is the perk to go for.

A second set of perks include Hammer Forged, which improves accuracy and range, great for Focused Fire and anyone who likes to aim down sights to blast their enemies away. Or you can switch it out to Lightweight, which grants +2 agility to your character. Other weapons with this perk really help you out in Strikes and Raids, and it’s worth having that additional agility if you can get hold of it.

To conclude, SUROS Regime is almost certainly a PVP focused weapon, and it’s always been that way since Year 1. With that said, in PVE it can help you move around and dodge enemies faster than anyone else, get clutch health boosts against minions of the Darkness, and help you finish off tougher enemies with the last half of the magazine.

Well now if you need to find Xur you’re going to head to the Tower! Once there you need to go left from spawn, all the way down the stairs and pas that pointless New Monarchy representative. Make a run like you’re going to see the Speaker, but at the last minute just keep on running past the entrance to his chamber so he thinks he has a friend but actually ends up crying creepy tears. If you make it to the balcony have a look around, Xur is lurking against the barriers like he wants to push you off.

Exotic Weapon: Suros Regime (Exotic Auto Rifle) 23 Strange Coins

The Suros Regime is an iconic weapon that’s been a part of Destiny since year 1. It might have had a paint job since then, but its perks are still formidable. The SUROS Legacy perk grants additional damage to the bottom half of all magazines, and gives you a chance to heal with every kill.

Exotic Helmet: An Insurmountable Skullfort (Titan class) 13 Strange Coins

This helmet changes your face into something that’s both digital and incredibly shiny. It’s perk, Improved Transfusion, makes it so kills with Storm Fist immediately grant health regeneration. You’ll also respawn with full melee charge, and gain a second one to boot.

Exotic Gauntlets: Nothing Manacles (Warlock Class) 13 Strange Coins

These gauntlets are badass, that’s all I’ve got to say about how they look because it’s undeniable. Seriously just go and check them out quickly. Now you’ve done that, the perk, Scatter Charge, will enable tracking for Scatter Grenades, and allow you to hold an extra Scatter charge. I don’t need to tell you just ho crazy this is, especially in PVP. 

Exotic Gauntlets: Shinobu’s Vow (Hunter Class) 13 Strange Coins

Don’t be fooled by these gauntlets. They’re not the fanciest of armour for a Hunter by any means, but they do allow you that little exotic advantage. The perk, New Tricks, grants an improved skip grenade, and an additional grenade charge so that you’ve got plenty of them going around. To top that off you’ll be throwing those grenades faster thanks to the Fastball perk.

Dragon’s Breath and Tiger Shark: (weapon Bundle) 30 Strange Coins and 25 Silver Dust

Dragon’s Breath is yet another iconic weapon of Destiny year 1, getting added with The Dark Below. Dragon’s Breath allows you to create what is essentially a small sun on the battlefield with each shot, and having look like a tiger is just something else.

Our Take

Okay, so there’s a good range of armour on display this week, but the Suros Regime is definitely where it’s at. We’d recommend you buy that and just get on with your week, but if you’ve already earned it elsewhere then some of that armour to build up your collection might be worth a shout. Honestly though, if you’re heading from Light 300 to 400, get some of this stuff, because it’ll make your life easier in the long run. 

How To Get All 6 Class Specific Weapons

Ever since the launch of The Taken King the Gunsmith has been offering Guardians the chance to earn reputation with him. This reputation leads to weapon orders for prototype Legendary weapons, some of which are well worth trying out. This isn’t all however, as sometimes he’ll offer up a quest, an opportunity to earn something more from him, something exotic. This is the beginning of class-specific exotics, one for Hunter, Warlock, and Titan, and all three will be needed in order to complete the Age of Triumph record book. Here is a quick guide as to how to obtain these weapons, but be aware that in the background you should probably be paying the Gunsmith a bit of attention already, to rank up in the meantime if nothing else.

Step 1: reach rank 2 with the Gunsmith

This step is pretty self-explanatory, you need to earn enough reputation with the Gunsmith to reach rank 2. This can be done by earning reputation in Golden Age Relic drops, or by completing the weapon tests he sets each week. You can complete up to five each week, so it’s worth doing that now if you want a chance of earning the goodies.

Once you reach rank 2 you’ll receive the Back in the Saddle quest, which will lead to a Legendary class-specific weapon, Susanoo for Warlocks, Immobius for Titans, and Stillpiercer for Hunters.

Back in the Saddle

The first part of the quest tasks you with killing enemies with a certain weapon while a certain telemetry is active. The second part of the quest requires you to gather weapon parts from Rare or Legendary weapons of the type that the eventual Legendary you’ll receive is, Shotgun for example. You need to dismantle 10 weapons to gather all of these. This is how you obtain the Legendary class weapons, but those exotics are what matters.

Rinse and Repeat

The Gunsmith will task you with doing the same as above, though this time it’s primary weapons with primary telemetry. You’ll have to dismantle rare and legendary weapons once again to get 10 weapon parts, and afterwards you’ll be rewarded with the following.

Tlaloc is a Warlock exclusive exotic Scout Rifle. The exotic perk, Overflow, increases handling, rate of fire, and stability while the user’s Super is charged.

Fabian Strategy is a Titan exclusive Auto Rifle. The exotic perk, Front Lines, increases handling, stability, and rate of fire when enemies are close. Kills will also partially reload the magazine, making for very easy killing.

Ace of Spades is a Hunter exclusive hand cannon. The exotic perk, Maverick, moves one round from your ammo reserves to the magazine when you land a precision kill.
