Why Are Lunafaction Boots Are Randomly Glitching in Destiny 2

Lunafaction Boots are an infamous Exotic in Destiny 2. This Warlock leg armor was once an incredibly powerful tool. It used to provide full reloads for stowed weapons when standing in a rift. As you can imagine, this basically allowed you to fire off at enemies with zero lag time between running out of ammo in a magazine. Unfortunately, Bungie changed the way the perk works with Shadowkeep. However, it now seems like it’s back to working in a pre-Shadowkeep state. So what’s going on?

First, you need to understand that the way Lunafaction Boots are now intended to work is by boosting your reload speed within a rift. You won’t see the full reloads automatically anymore. This makes it much less powerful, and I think that’s intentional to get more Guardians using other Exotics. Bungie likes to mess around like this so it just makes sense.

Cut to last week when a Guardian by the name of Sir_Blyatman on Reddit found that Lunafaction Boots were working in their pre-Shadowkeep state within the Vault of Glass. They said that it’s not consistent, and appears to be pretty random, but it’s definitely happening. After thinking about it for a while, I believe this can tell us a few things about the way Bungie develops Destiny 2.

Guardians have been glitching into the elements of Vault of Glass for months now. Way before the raid dropped in Season of the Splicer. That’s because Bungie builds things long before they appear in the game. The more elements that are in the game before release day, the shorter the day one patch has to be. However, this does present a few issues. Any changes made to the wider game, for example, may not pass over to the new content because it’s being developed outside of it.

In the case of Vault of Glass and Lunafaction Boots, I think that Bungie brought Vault of Glass over from Destiny 1, and it messed up the way gear interacts with enemies and Guardians. That’s why we’re seeing the old perk for this Exotic in the new version of the raid. There must be some instances where the raid references and older string that pulls out the old Intrinsic Perk.

It’s interesting to see, and Bungie will almost certainly fix it, but it gives us a nice insight into how this game is made. Let us know what you think of it in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
