When Will Destiny 3 Come Out? | Is it Even Planned?
Are we ever going to get a Destiny 3?
Bungie is hard at work on the biggest and most-profitable game it’s ever worked on, Destiny 2. We all know how the development is going because, in a twist that’s taken years, Bungie is incredibly clear with all fans where development is at. We know that there’s no big expansion planned for this year because it’s been pushed into 2022, and we also know that Bungie will put something else in place for us. However, what we don’t know is where the Destiny universe is going to go after Destiny 2, into Destiny 3 and beyond. First, let’s tackle when and if it’ll ever launch though.
When Will Destiny 3 Come Out?
Bungie has made it plainly clear that it’s not planning to release Destiny 3 before 2025. The developer has a new HQ with teams working on the Destiny universe and another IP or two. If Destiny 3 is coming, it’s not going to be for at least four years. Even then, Bungie may delay it if the current Destiny 2 content model works and decide to push forward one of the other games it’s working on.
Will Destiny 3 Ever Come Out?
The truth is that we just can’t know what Bungie is planning. Under Activision, the plan looked to be that Destiny would be a franchise that got a new game every four years. Each new title would have improvements, but there wouldn’t be any major improvements in each title until the next one released. This was very much a Call of Duty mindset.
However, Bungie has now flipped to a seasonal release schedule. It produces seasons of content and gives those to players over the course of years. This works far better, and the community seems to love it. It’s part of the new content model that’s emerged since Fortnite rose to popularity, and I think it works really well for Destiny 2.
The only problem is that Destiny 2 could keep this model forever, and Destiny 3 wouldn’t need to launch. Warframe and other MMOs have proven that you can drop big chunks of new content with new features for players without launching a new game. That means that flying ships could come to Destiny 2 in the future, there’s no way to tell just yet though.
Let us know what you think will come of Destiny 3, if anything, in the comments.
