The new Dungeon that dropped with Season of Arrivals, Prophecy, has been turning quite a few heads in the Destiny 2 community lately. The Dungeon is probably one of the most enjoyable that we’ve had in a very long time, but it’s also got some of the most up to date lore to track down, if you’re up for listening out for it.

The key to all of this lore are the conversations between Eris Morn and The Drifter. These are the two characters who seem to be part of the side of Darkness moving forward, at least that’s what we’re all assuming at this point. The Drifter is almost certainly tainted by the Darkness, and Eris Morn could probably fight it if she wanted to.

The discoveries were actually catalogued and pointed out by @Nemplays on Twitter.

This all goes back to Season of Dawn, and the quest for Devil’s Ruin. As part of that quest, you were essentially just running around a Crucible map while Lord Shaxx and Saint-14 chatted to each other for a bit. Part of Shaxx’s dialogue is singing along to a song that Eris Morn sings on the Moon.

According to Forbes, and I’m inclined to agree with them, this relates to the famous Crucible announcement about everything not being over until Shaxx sings.

According to this new lore, Eris is saying that Shaxx’s skull has been activated by none other than Savathun herself. She says that she didn’t sing the song to Shaxx, but it was Savathun activating her viral earworm. Eris goes on to talk about how other objects of the dark are activating in similar ways around the system, but she doesn’t go into any detail as to what those objects are.

The thing that ties all of this together is Hive music, which we’ve seen since Destiny 1. There was even a Strike called Savathun’s Song, and we know that the Hive sing at Crota’s funeral or sorts. @Nemplays even thinks that the song being discussed is the one from the Shadowkeep home screen.

Since this discovery was made, the lore around the cut exotic, Traveler’s Chosen, has been analysed in depth. In there it talks about how Savathun has been inhabiting Shaxx’s skull since the Red War, watching him grieve for both the Speaker and Cayde-6. The lore says that she feels the rot within him, which could indicate that he’ll be taken over when Savathun arrives, or slowly corrupted over time.

Let us know what you think of all of this in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.

Never! Shaxx will never be taken by the Darkness… only by force will it happen.

I still think that as Eris and the Drifter have been the closest to the darkness, I feel they will be the ones who rather then fall to darkness, they’ll be the ones keeping everyone else in check like Zavala, Shaxx, who have come to rely on the light so much that they were despairing when they didn’t have it anymore and will likely seek other means to protect their city out of desperation. Why else would Eris and the Drifter take up sides with The Stranger, who is/was the frontlinner Against the Darkness in D1?
