Bungie Seems To Have Buffed The Enhancement Core Economy In Destiny 2

Since The Dawning went live earlier this month, something strange has been going on in Destiny 2. Forbes has done some pretty in-depth research on the subject and reading up on it, I think I’ve also noticed it. There are way more Enhancement Cores in Destiny 2 right now.

The Enhancement Core economy in Destiny 2 has been abysmal at best for ages. It’s been a top complaint on the Destiny 2 subreddit, and I don’t think I’ve heard more Guardians complain about a single topic in all the years the game has been live. With the exception of Trials of Osiris I guess.

Enhancement Cores are essential for upgrading weapons and armour in Destiny 2. I myself use them quite a lot because I’m always running with gear that’s lower than the level of something else in my inventory. All that upgrading catches up with you quickly though, and you used to run out of these handy items pretty quickly.

I thought that this was a deliberate mechanic on Bungie’s part. In a way, it’s good, because it forces Guardians to experiment with different weapons and perks. Thanks to transmog we can later the look of all of our armour anyway, so that side of things doesn’t matter as much.

Now though, it looks like Bungie has buffed the drop rate of Enhancement Cores to shut everyone up. It would make sense, since this is one of the biggest bug bears that Guardians have. However, you’d have thought that the developer would announce such a buff, so that they could bask in the glory of being so generous.

If they did deliberately buff the drop rate, they aren’t taking the credit. It could still be them though, they’d be well within their rights to keep something like this to themselves. It’s a huge benefit to Guardians, but to new Guardians it doesn’t look like there’s much different. Only us veterans notice the difference.

Regardless of whether Bungie did this deliberately, or if it’s a new bug, it’s here for the duration. I don’t see Bungie fixing this anytime soon, because it’s just too helpful to Guardians. There’s no sense in making the progression harder in your game is there? Let us know what you think, and if you’ve noticed the difference, in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
