What If The Deep Stone Crypt Is On Europa?

One Guardian has posed the question of whether the Deep Stone Crypt is on Europa, and it’s super interesting.

A Guardian on Reddit by the name of astahfirth has posed an incredibly interesting question. What if the Deep Stone Crypt is on Europa? With Beyond Light adding Europa to the list of explorable worlds, we may finally be exploring the birthplace of the Exos.

What Is The Deep Stone Crypt?

The Deep Stone Crypt is the birthplace of the Exo race. Every Exo has a subroutine within their consciousness, depicting a black tower. Some Exos get to the tower in peace, while others have to kill an army of all those they know in order to reach it.

In his Treasure Island Book, Cayde-6 vaguely remembers becoming an Exo on an icy moon. This would match up with the location being on Europa, and it would also make sense that the next raid is down in the depths of the moon’s salty ocean, underneath kilometres of ice.

Why Does This Matter?

Europa is where we’ll be hooking up with the Exo Stranger. She’s an Exo, so it would fit thematically that the birthplace of her people is on this world, which is part of her big return to the Destiny universe.

Exos have always been a part of Destiny, but we’ve never explore why or how they were made. The Deep Stone Crypt being kilometres beneath the surface of an icy world would give us a glimpse at the Golden Age technology used to create them.

There are a lot of implications of this location being on Europa. The most puzzling is whether or not the area is deliberately underneath kilometres of ice, or if the moon was frozen over again to hide the technology from the rest of the system.

Building Exos feels like something that some people wouldn’t be okay with. They’re artificial people who are then tasked with doing chores, and the jobs that no one else wants to do. They’re also used as machines of war, but they have no choice about whether they want to do that.

I think that the Deep Stone Crypt is going to be a place of dark human history. We’ll see the darkest extents that humanity went to when anything was possible with the power of the Traveler.

Let us know what you think of this in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.

    Bungie already confirmed

“There will be three raids playable this fall, including a new one set in the Deep Stone Crypt on Europa as part of the Beyond Light expansion.”
