One Guardian has gone above and beyond with this 3D cinematic short.

One Guardian by the name of NBSlays has put together an incredible 3D cinematic short. It’s inspired by the Destiny universe, and gets the tone just right. Give it a watch right now, you’ll thank me later.

The short is called Despair, and it’s a very fitting title when you know the story of this particular Guardian. They’ve managed to teleport themselves out into the depths of space, and they have no idea where to. As they look around, all they can find is a single artifact, maybe the one that teleported them, and angry red lightning flickering below them.

The tone of this 3D short is absolutely spot on. It’s like watching a cinematic from Destiny 1. Any moment I’m expecting the Vex to pop up and start shooting all over the place. It feels just like it’s part of the Destiny universe, and really there’s nothing to say that it isn’t.

This could be the end of a Guardian’s journey. They might have picked up an artifact and explored too far. Now they’re stuck, and they may never be found. All that they have is the solace that when they do eventually die, their Ghost will bring them back to life. Who knows how long this will go on?

It’s a tale that echoes that of Osiris. He went too far into the Infinite Forest, and ended up getting lost for untold ages. Now he’s returned, but he was gone for what only seemed like a few moments to him, when in reality he was gone for years.

I could see this Guardian fitting nicely into some Destiny 2 lore about a weapon, or even an entire season that focuses on the Vex. The Guardian could be trying to uncover a secret Vex hideout, where one of the most powerful Minds in the universe is located. Instead, they got their trajectory wrong, and were thrown to this place they find themselves in now.

In the present day of Destiny 2, Guardians could teleport to the same place, and, but with some extra piece of knowledge be able to rescue the Guardian. Of course, this would open up a whole new can of worms, with an ultimate Vex Mind now on the rampage or something.

You can see what mean with the setting. I also think that the fact that this short uses motion capture also helps make it fit in the Destiny universe. That’s how all the Emotes are captured after all. Check out the creator page for this short here.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
