Destiny Xur’s Inventory: Should You Buy Hawkmoon?
This week Xur is selling Hawkmoon, probably the best hand cannon in Destiny. Even if hand cannon’s aren’t your usual gun of choice this is definitely worth considering just because of how good it is in both PVP and PVE.
The primary perks for the gun are Luck in the Chamber, which gives one random bullet increased damage, and Holding Aces, which gives another two bullet randomly increased damage. In a magazine of thirteen bullets, you can almost guarantee that the enemy you’re shooting at is going to get one of these bullets in their face. However, these perks are also dangerous, as they will keep you from reloading if you know some of these bullets with extra damage haven’t been used yet. It might feel like a bit of a numbers game, but the bullets really can make a huge difference to your situation in PVP when face to face with a foe, or PVE when bearing down on a boss.
In PVE this gun excels because you can smash huge enemies in next to no time, as long as you get to fire off all your bullets in one sitting. Luckily the gun has great draw speed and rate of fire, so you can pretty much guarantee that all your shots will be used within a few seconds. However, the range is not fantastic and that makes this gun a bit useless for some bosses, particularly in Raids. With Strike bosses you can get up close and personal, so this gun should come in pretty handy, but if all you’re doing is hitting Raids then maybe this isn’t what will persuade you.
In PVP this gun is awesome. Again, you’ll be holding onto the bullets in your magazine, counting down the ones with additional damage and hoping that an enemy comes around the corner to soak them up. The speed with which you can equip, aim, and fire the gun is what will help you reach the top of the leaderboard, and it might help boots your K/D radio too. Even if PVP isn’t what you’re into, I’d still recommend this gun just because of how brilliant it is with that additional damage, the only thing left is to count those Strange Coins.
