Is Lorentz Driver the best Exotic Fusion Rifle in Destiny 2?

Well, is it?

Is Lorentz Driver the best Exotic Fusion Rifle in Destiny 2?

Lorentz Driver is a brand new Exotic fusion rifle that’s just been added to Destiny 2 with Season of the Lost. Is it the best one in the game though? We’ve been through most of them, and now we’re going to compare this latest entry to see if it’s actually better than everything else on the market. First, the Stats and Intrinsic Perk.

Stats

  • Impact – 41
  • Range – 44
  • Stability – 52
  • Handling – 32
  • Reload Speed – 35
  • Charge Time – 533
  • Magazine Size – 6

Hidden Stats

  • Aim Assistance – 32
  • Inventory Size – 35
  • Zoom – 25
  • Recoil – 79
  • Bounce Intensity – 21
  • Bounts Direction – Tends Right

Intrinsic Perk

The Intrinsic Perk is Lagranian Sight. This makes the weapon mark enemies with a targetted aiming system. Any final blows on market targets generate Telemetry Patterns. Pick up three of these without dying and you’ll gain a long period of increased damage. Each one you grab also adds bonus ability energy.

You also get EM Anomaly with this weapon. This causes an implosion with precision final blows that pulls in nearby targets and causes additional damage to them.

So, is this better than everything else? Let’s see.

Bastion

You charge this weapon to fire three purely kinetic slugs at enemies. It also fires unstoppable slugs, but that’s about it. I’m not sorry to say that Lorentz Driver is better.

Arbalest

I love Arbalest because it causes damage to all elemental shields, not just one with a bonus. You’ll also make an enemy vulnerable once you destroy that shield, and you can swap out to a new gun to finish them off. I think it’s akin to the bonus damage but much easier to achieve. Honestly, I’d say Arbalest was better for ease of use, but Lorentz Driver is probably more powerful.

Jotunn

Jotunn is good. It launches homing slugs that can kill you through an obstacle. It’s an absolute menace. But it’s hard to make the most of unless you know what you’re doing. I think it’s not the superior here.

Merciless

Anyone who reads this site knows that I love Merciless. You can build up some serious damage by deliberately not killing enemies, and then charge yourself up to destroy your enemies. Still, it’s not the bonus damage we get with Lorentz Driver.

Telesto

Telesto is a broken weapon. Sure, it’s got Neelder-like slugs, but it’s also a Destiny 2 glitch waiting to happen every season. No, it’s not technically better.

Vex Mythoclast

This weapon has its perks by being able to fire in full-auto, but the bonus damage potential doesn’t compare. Even on a min/max level, it’s nowhere near as good.

One Thousand Voices

This is basically a more deadly trace rifle. It’s good, I like it, but the bonus damage is still much better.

Sleeper Simulant

This is a great legacy weapon, but it doesn’t scratch the advantages that Lorentz Driver has.

The Queenbreaker

Finally, we have another legacy weapon. I adore this one because it’s a nice gimmick, but it was good in Destiny 1. I’m not saying it’s better at all.

So there we have it. Arbalest is, to me, a better Exotic because it’s easier to use. However, Lorentz Driver is a much more powerful one, and probably the best in the game in terms of damage. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
