Stasis Isn’t Darkness, It’s Darkness Being Funnelled Through An Element

Stasis isn’t actually an evil power, it’s an element, much like Solar, Void, and Arc. Let’s talk about that.

Over on the Destiny Subreddit, one Guardian by the name of TheOneTrueDargus has pointed out that Stasis isn’t the power of the Darkness in Destiny 2. I think that this is really interesting, so let’s dive into what they’re saying.

Stasis, Not Darkness

One of the many slogans for Destiny 2 Beyond Light is that Guardians will wield the power of the Darkness. Now this is definitely true, but not in the way that everyone is thinking.

The new Subclass we will be getting is a new element. Bungie has confirmed this much. The element is going to be applied to more than just Guardians though, so you’ll be able to pick it up and use it in a weapon for example.

The same is true of Solar, Void, and Arc. Now the point being made here is that all of these elements are separate from the powers of Light and Darkness.

Guardians Use Light, And Soon The Darkness

In order for Guardians to be powered up with Solar, Arc, and Void elements, they use the Light of the Traveler to funnel an element into their bodies. This makes sense, because we had to get our Light back from the Traveler before we could use our Subclasses again in the main Destiny 2 campaign.

If you think about weapons though, these are items that are forged with elements in them. Yes, some Exotics may use Darkness or Light, but once forged, they’re using those powers in order to control the element they’re geared towards.

Weapons don’t always have an affinity with Light or Darkness. Yes, some do, but for the most part, weapons and items do not.

What Does This Mean?

If Stasis is just another element, which it is, then Guardians aren’t using the Darkness as a Subclass. Instead, they’re being given the power to control Stasis, which is this element that the new breed of Fallen also use, by the Darkness.

There’s nothing to say that the Pyramid on Europa didn’t give the Fallen Stasis too. It might be that anyone who walks up to the Pyramid can come away with Stasis under their control. We don’t know.

I’ve been thinking of Stasis as the power of the Darkness ever since the reveal of Beyond Light. However, this point has opened my mind, and reminded me that the Darkness is a power, not an element to be controlled.

If the Darkness is giving us control over Stasis, what are we giving up? Let me know what you think in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.

I think we’re giving up nothing, we’re we once humans and have experienced up and down, equilibrium and entropy – I think it is human nature to be consumed and to control light and dark – I also want to point out that black or color should never come up at all. English is tricky so yea.
