Will Bungie Have Fixed Iron Banner for Tomorrow?
Is it just going to be a colossal mess again?
In its latest This Week at Bungie post, the developer alluded to the fact that Iron Banner will be fixed this week. Personally, I don’t have a tonne of faith in the company, but I do think that they could have fixed it if they’ve paid attention to Guardian feedback. The team caught the issue last time pretty quickly, but they’re notorious for putting a plaster on issues like this rather than actually fixing them.
The first Iron Banner event for Season of the Splicer was busted. The issue was that weapons couldn’t be acquired by any means outside of the quest. This isn’t an issue as such if all Guardians are pushing the quest. However, it does mean that you can’t use your Iron Banner Tokens to pick up the weapons and get some new rolls. Instead, everyone was restricted to whatever dropped from the quest.
As I mentioned, Bungie caught the issue early and managed to notify the community, but that’s all. It’s been a good few weeks now, and I’d expect any other developer to have fixed this. The background issue is that Crucible and competitive PvP on the whole is awful. Iron Banner was safe aside from being repeated content, but now even this game mode has fallen to the issues that plague Trials of Osiris and the Crucible, making it pretty unenjoyable.
For The Witch Queen expansion, Bungie needs to address what PvP in this game is and make something new. It’s a part of the game that the company largely ignores, so there’s no point in keeping it together. Even Iron Banner events are more hated than they are enjoyed.
The next Iron Banner begins tomorrow and will run until June 15. In its blog post, Bungie mentions that it’s nearly time to spend your Tokens. I saw Guardians spending thousands of Tokens last time and receiving nothing good in return. Don’t spend your Tokens unless you see some proof from a Guardian out there that the system is working again. If you do, you’ll be wasting whatever Tokens you spend, and you’ll regret it.
Let us know if you manage to pick up any weapons from Iron Banner in the comments this week.
