You may have noticed that The Dawning kicked off this week in Destiny 2. The event is the ultimate Destiny 2 Christmas experience, and every Guardian who is able is baking away and earning Dawning Spirit. Some of us have noticed a bit of an odd pile of snow in the Tower though. After closer inspection, it appears as though Bungie buried Cayde-6’s chicken, Colonel, and now we want answers.
Colonel is the chicken that Cayde-6 is seen handling in most cutscenes in Destiny 2’s history. This chicken is as much a part of Destiny 2 as any of the major characters. There’s even an Emote that was created based on the community’s love for it.
After Cayde-6’s untimely demise, Colonel was all we had. Many Guardians go and check on the chicken every time they log in, just as a nod to their favourite Hunter Vanguard.
Now though, with snow swamping the Tower, Bungie has pulled a fast one and buried Colonel under a load of snow. In order to uncover the poor poultry you need to step all over it and give it some breathing space.
While I don’t see this as any sort of animal cruelty, or a move on Bungie’s part to remove Cayde-6 from Destiny 2’s history, I do think it’s a bit of a harsh joke. This chicken is a friend, I’d rather see it roosted somewhere else due to the snow than being forced to walk all over it.
Part of me can’t help but think that this is a hint at something to come in the future though. Bungie is cryptic. This could be nothing, but it could also be a hint at Cayde-6’s return, or a mission in which we end up seeing him in some shape or form. Don’t ask me how it could happen, with all the Vex tech floating around it’s bound to happen at some point.
Let’s not focus on the fact that this chicken could freeze to death, or the hints at the game’s future it might bring. This is The Dawning. It’s a time to celebrate, and all Guardians should be doing just that over the coming weeks.
Let us know what you think of Colonel in the comments.

You don’t even really have to “stomp all over him” That’s just how the snow physics work, the snow moves aside when you walk on it, I don’t think it’s meant to be cryptic or anything, burying him is for comedic value not animal cruelty or forshadowing
