New Secret Mission Discovered In Destiny 2

Earlier this week a new secret mission was discovered in Destiny 2. In order to make this discovery Guardians were taking part in the Taken Public Event on Io, specifically in Lost Oasis.

As part of this event a Taken Champion appears, and if you manage to kill it a portal opens. Going through this portal begins the secret mission, a Quest really, The Whisper.

The mission has a 20 minute countdown timer, and must be completed within that time limit if the rewards are to be earned. It actually contains one of the hardest platforming puzzles in the franchise so far, and that’s part of what makes The Whisper so incredibly difficult to complete.

However, if you manage to complete the platforming puzzle then you’re rewarded with three big Taken bosses to kill. These bosses are very interesting because they are Taken versions of bosses Guardians were killing in Destiny 1; Urzok The Hated, Valus T’aurc, and Drevis Wolf Baroness. Some have speculated that this intrinsically links the secret mission to Destiny 1 in some way, but the lore hasn’t been properly established yet.

Killing these three bosses will reward you with Whisper of the Worm, a brand new Exotic Sniper Rifle that is effectively Black Spindle. The weapon has the same perk, White Nail, which refills the magazine after three rapid precision shots.

What the community has found in this mission is a portal to what they think is the Vault of Glass, the location of the very first raid in Destiny 1. They believe this is the location because Oracles can be seen on the other side.

There are five hidden chests that must be collected throughout the mission, and if a Guardian gets them all then kills the Oracles in the right order they will earn the blueprint for an Exotic ship. Note that this is only possible in the Heroic version of the mission.

However, the ship hasn’t been identified yet because you need to complete The Whisper three times, with three different modifiers; Arc Single, Solar Singe, and Void Singe. This week is Arc Singe, but the ship won’t be properly revealed until after the next two weekly resets when both of the other modifiers will have been made available.

Guardians are rejoicing that such a great secret even exists in Destiny 2, since there were a few like this in Destiny 1 but so far none have been found that are worthy of the previous game. Until now.

One theory surrounding the weapon, mission, and even the weapon’s name is that the Worm god we all killed in Warmind, Xol, has transferred its energy into a weapon. It could also be that some unknown force directing the Taken that we don’t know about yet has converted the Worm God into the weapon, rewarding use by those who defeated it as punishment for not finishing us of perhaps?

Let us know if you acquire Whisper of the Worm in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
