During last week’s Xbox Games Showcase we got a brand new trailer for Destiny 2 Beyond Light. The expansion was delayed until the 10th of November, but that won’t stop us enjoying this more in-depth look at what’s to come now will it?

Right off the bat we get a sneak peak at what must be a social zone on Europa. It’s similar to the safe area on the Moon, where Eris was for Shadowkeep, and has a couple of NPCs hanging out there too. I’m intrigued to know what these people will be doing lore-wise. Probably learning about the Pyramids.

We’re then given a look at what the Stasis Subclasses can do. These things feel like a complete overhaul of the game, and I think that’s what Bungie was going for.

Guardians use Stasis to freeze and encase enemies, which is exactly what you’d expect from a new element introduced on a frozen world. However, it looks like we’re also going to be using Stasis to unlock new areas, and traverse the world or Europa.

I’m not certain how this will work exactly, but platforms can be created on certain surfaces, and these then allow you to reach new areas. I can see this being used to find secrets quite a lot. We also see this being used as a shield in PVP, but then as a way to boost your jump and get the drop on enemies in the Crucible as well.

Amazingly it’s also possible to shatter frozen enemies, which is something I’m very much looking forward to doing.

The thing I’m concerned about is what Stasis means for Destiny 2. Is this just the result of the Darkness manifesting on a frozen world, or is it what the Darkness uses at all times? It seems likely that the Darkness would adapt to its surroundings, so I imagine that Stasis is just one form of its power in this environment.

We still have so much to learn about the Darkness, and the Pyramids. Hopefully Beyond Light explains a little of what the heck is going on with this force when Beyond Light finally hits. We’ve still got plenty of time until it does, so hopefully we’ll get some sweet lore in the meantime as well.

Let us know your thoughts on the new trailer in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
