How Long Will Season 15 Last in Destiny 2?

With no expansion this year, are we getting a new season or just a very long one?

Who is Savathûn? What We Know About The Witch Queen

Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer is pretty good. It’s not as groundbreaking as past season have been, but it’s alright. It’s got some absolutely fantastic storytelling, some great weapons, impressive replayable content, and of course, the stunning revamped version of Vault of Glass. But how long will it last? Bungie has delayed The Witch Queen to 2022, meaning that there’s no expansion this year. That expansion would overtake Season 15 and add in Season 16. But we’re not getting the expansion, so just how long is Season 15 going to last?

I’ve seen a lot of speculation around this, so let’s explore those theories. First, some press outlets believe that we’re heading into the longest season we’ve ever seen. This would be potentially eight months long, and see us exploring the same content for almost double what we’re used to from a season. If Bungie doesn’t make it much more interesting than current seasons, which are pretty much done and dull by their end, then we’re going to have a problem.

The alternative is that we get an additional season this year. The season would still need to be set before The Witch Queen, and set events up for that expansion. It’s going to have been a very long time between expansions by that point, so I have to question if Bungie will be able to pull that off. Still, this seems like the more likely option.

If we’re getting an additional season this year, I reckon it’s going to be purpose made to lead into The Witch Queen. Bungie isn’t stupid, which is why it delayed the expansion so long ago. It wanted to give the developers time to create a season that’s worthy of all the ones that have come before it. The storytelling needs to be top notch once again, and we also need worthwhile content that will keep us engaged for the coming months.

I think that whatever season we have, it’ll be a good one. Whether it’s as great as what we’ve had so far remains to be seen. Let us know your thoughts on what might be coming in the gap left by the lack of an expansion in 2021 in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
