Guardians Now In Destiny 2 And The US Space Force

Don’t get these mixed up or you might find yourself grossly underprepared.

Guardians Now In Destiny 2 And The US Space Force

No Guardian could have missed the news that the US Space Force finally came up with a name for the people they’ll be sending out into space. I am of course talking about the fact that there are now real-life Guardians. That’s what members of the US Space Force will be called. I know, I can hardly believe it either, but it’s totally real.

It didn’t take Bungie long to jump on this with a tweet, and their response was awesome.

What stands out to me here is that the US Space Force took hundreds of submissions. they then researched everything involving space professionals, and landed on this name.

I don’t want to be mean, but I think that the people who decided this name are grossly out of touch. They’ve obviously never heard of Destiny 1 or 2, which I could believe. What I can’t believe is that they’ve missed out on the global phenomenon that is Guardians of the Galaxy, a comic book series and massive movie franchise.

I reckon that there were so many submissions for Guardians that they just went with it. I can’t imagine what research will have gone into deciding this name. As far as I know, the US Space Force will be patrolling space for the fun of it. They’ve never announced any alien threats, so they’re guarding nothing. At best, they are space jockeys, keeping an eye on the darkness to make sure nothing’s coming at us from far away.

Guardians is a great name, but to me it will always be those soldiers out there fighting against the forces of the Darkness in Destiny 1 and 2. I think all of you will feel exactly the same too, which is fine. We don’t need to use this name, we can just call ourselves ‘the real Guardians’.

In all seriousness, it is a little scary that the US is putting people into space for the purposes of guarding planet Earth. I really do hope that if something’s on the way, it’s the Traveler and not a Hive or Fallen ship. If it were the Taken or Vex I suspect that they’d already be here and we’d be totally screwed.

Let us know what you think of this in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
