Iron Banner Needs to do Pinnacle Weapons As Seasons do

Iron Banner is great. It’s the peak of all PvP content in Destiny 2. you need to dust off your best weapons and gear, enter into a match of Control, and compete against other Guardians who will destroy you if their gear is better. This is what Destiny 2 PvP was always meant to be, and it’s made better by the fact that it isn’t always available. However, the pinnacle quest for each season really misses the mark.

The pinnacle quest is something Guardians have to complete before they can start earning Iron Banner-specific items from matches. The quest feels arbitrary, asking you to complete matches, capture zones, and maybe do something else related to Control. They’re never exciting, and never push you to do more.

That’s why we think that Bungie should take note of the pinnacle quests for each season and implement a similar system for each season’s Iron Banner. Over the course of the few weeks that the event is live, give us a single weapon to unlock. Make the quest difficult, and include activities outside of Iron Banner as well. Then, give us a series of Ornaments to chase.

Obviously, there should be an Iron Banner Ornament that can only be unlocked in that game mode, but we need more. There should be one for the Crucible, one for the Vanguard, one for Gambit, and maybe every planet or vendor as well. Ornaments are extremely fun to hunt down, so why not capitalize on that fact?

During Season of the Chosen, the seasonal Ornaments for Salvager’s Salvo form part of the Seasonal Challenges. The Ornaments for this Iron Banner weapon could also be used, adding in something else for Guardians to do outside of the activity.

Currently, Destiny 2 is in the best state it’s ever been in. There’s stuff to do between each season that feels truly engaging, and the story is the best it’s ever been. Bungie should make the most of this progress and really double down on what Guardians want. For us, that’s more Ornaments to chase for more pinnacle weapons.

Make Iron Banner great again by giving us a weapon that’s work grinding for, and then give us a reason to use it in every activity outside of that one when we’ve picked it up.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
