Hey Bungie, Showdown Is Broken In Destiny 2

One of the seasonal challenges for Season of the Chosen requires you to complete a bunch of Showdown matches in the Crucible. At the time of writing, Showdown is an available game mode in the Crucible playlist, so I naturally attempted to get through these matches so that I could complete that challenge. However, it seems as though Bungie is having issues with more than just Trials of Osiris, because the whole thing is broken.

Showdown is very much a standard version of Trials of Osiris without the epic rewards. You’re split into teams of three and play to the best of five matches. Each one has a timer rather than lives, but it still feels as intense.

As I was playing, I lost every single match. That’s no surprise though. I’m terrible in the Crucible, and Showdown is where I excel in dying and awarding points to the opposite team. After checking following my first defeat, I saw that one loss counts as 13% towards this challenge completion. So I settled in.

After the second match, I was at 27%. However, after the third match, something odd happened. I was kicked at the end to orbit. I got all my rewards apart from seasonal experience, and there was nothing logged on the challenge. After two more matches with the same result, I knew it was broken.

This caused me to quit out of Destiny 2 and play something else. In an MMO, there is nothing worse than wasting your time. Despite trying my hardest, I was losing. However, I’m not a bot. There is no history of my account being a bot. So there’s no reason for my account to suddenly be treated as one, which is the only conclusion that I could come to.

After thinking on this a little, I realized what must be the issue though. Trials of Osiris must be linked to Showdown in some way. I think that the unforeseen side-effect of removing Trials of Osiris for yet another week has caused Showdown to experience these issues.

So this is my warning to you. Don’t play Showdown until Bungie confirms that they’ve fixed it in an update blog post. I’ll keep experimenting. It’s just such a shame that now no Guardians can complete that challenge.
