Is The Colony The Best Exotic Grenade Launcher?

As far as Grenade Launchers go in Destiny they are either truly awful or terribly average. There is however, an exception to the rule in The Colony, an Exotic Grenade Launcher that’s got a pretty special Perk. Before we go into that though let’s check out those Stats.

The Colony fires 140 Rounds Per Minute, has a Blast Radius of 20, Velocity of 28, Stability of 82, Magazine of 7, Reload Speed of 64, and Handling of 82. The hidden Stats are a Zoom of 13, Inventory Size of 70, Aim Assistance of 60, and Recoil Direction of 80.

All in all these Stats aren’t outstanding, in fact they’re quite average. What you can see is a strong focus on Stability and Handling, but the rest is pretty much basic. However, it’s the Perks that make this the best Exotic Grenade Launcher, yes I think it is, so let’s dive in a little deeper and have a look at those.

The Exotic Perk on The Colony is Insectoid Robot Grenades. Yea now you’re on board aren’t you? This Perk changes the weapon’s Grenades into insectoid robots which chase enemies down and explode when close to them. This Perk alone, I’m confident in saying, is why this weapon is ranked #16 in PVP.

The rest of the Perks are; Linear Compensator, which slightly increases Projectile Speed, Blast Radius, and Stability. High-Velocity Rounds, which increases Projectile Speed and Reload Speed. Serve The Colony, which makes insectoid robots quickly reload the weapon when holstered. Composite Stock, which slightly increases Stability and Handling Speed.

So if you’re looking at these on paper you’ve now got perfect Handling and Stability. The Projectile Speed is also super quick, meaning you can deliver a Grenade to your opponent before they know it. But just in case your speed and lethality weren’t enough, your grenades will explode and hunt down your enemy in order to secure that kill on those cheeky dodgers.

So this is already a firm favourite and best for me, but how does it stack up against the competition? Well we’ve got Fighting Lion, which has an Exotic Perk that allows you to delay the explosion of your projectiles. Now that’s useful, don’t get me wrong, but you can either artfully try to bounce a grenade towards an enemy and hope you get the timing of that explosion right, or fire exploding robots at them. The Colony wins here.

The only other competition is The Prospector. The Exotic Perk on this is similar to Fighting Lion, but it allows you to fire all your grenades and then detonate them all simultaneously. Again, you could bombard your enemies with grenades and set them all off at once, of fire exploding robots.

This is hands down a win for The Colony in my eyes, but let us know what you think in the comments.
