Is Crimson The Best Exotic Hand Cannon?

crimson

Crimson was on sale from Xur recently and that’s pushed it all the way up to being ranked #1 in PVP. Prior to this weekend it was still ranked #3 which is pretty damn impressive, but is the surge in use driven by the fact that the weapon was on sale or the fact that it really is the best Exotic Hand Cannon? Let’s look at the stats and find out.

Crimson fires 415 Rounds Per Minute, has an Impact of 92, Range of 60, Stability of 82, Magazine of 14, Reload Speed of 64, and Handling of 50. The hidden stats are; Zoom of 14, Inventory Size of 100, Aim Assistance of 75, and Recoil Direction of 55.

I don’t know about you but I think those stats are fairly stacked towards the high end, and have a nice curvature that flows downwards which is really what you want to see in a good weapon. However, Crimson is only enhanced by the perks on it, so let’s see what those are.

The Exotic perk, Banned Weapon, means that Crimson fires a 3-burst round as opposed to one single, shot. The rest of the perks are; Smallbore, which increases Range and Stability, Accurized Rounds, which increases Range again, Cruel Remedy, which heals the wielder when they make a kill and refills the magazine with precision kills, and Heavy Grip, which increases Stability but decreases Handling Speed.

Overall these perks are really great, giving you a way more powerful shot than any other Hand Cannon and extra health when you nail that kill. This makes Crimson essential if you’re a clutch player who goes in regardless of health, hoping for something to kick in and heal you once that last enemy is down.

However, there is competition in both Sunshot and Sturm. Sunshot isn’t much in the way of competition because its Exotic perk merely makes it fire explosive rounds and highlight any damaged enemies. This is handy for keeping track of the last person you shot but if they then get the last shot in you’re done for, no healing.

Sturm is even less competition, with the Exotic perk refilling the magazine of an equipped Energy weapon.

Honestly, out of the Exotic Hand Cannons available in Destiny 2 this is definitely the best. But more than that this is probably the best Kinetic weapon in the game at the moment. The healing buff can be super useful in last ditch fight situations, and a magazine refill on that precision kill could make the difference between a mission lost or won, and a PVP match ending in victory or defeat.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
