Do You Want Ornaments for Legendary Weapons?
Guardians are asking for it, but does everyone want it?
We’ve got loads of Ornaments in Destiny 2. they’re sought-after cosmetics that make our weapons look better, and sometimes even add a little bit of a buff to them that makes them far more viable in combat. However, for all the Ornaments we have, there could always be more. Lately, I’ve seen some Guardians asking for Ornaments on Legendary weapons to be brought back. In this article, I’d like to discuss why that could be good, but also why it might be a terrible idea.
The Good About Legendary Weapon Ornaments
We all know that more Ornaments would be great. It provides more stuff for us to chase and unlock between seasonal activities and the general Destiny 2 grind. It might make the game feel a little bloated, but that’s not the point of these Ornaments. You’re not going to chase an Ornament you don’t like. Instead, Legendary weapon Ornaments would be something you could try to claim for only your favorite weapons. There’s no point in collecting them all unless you happen to have infinite time. Instead, this would be a new area of content for every Guardian to enjoy if they fancied it.
The only caveat I have is that Bungie would likely need to put a limit on the number of Onrmanents you could unlock per season. I don’t like the idea of it being locked behind a paywall, but making life easier for the developers, and the Destiny 2 servers, is something we all need to bear in mind when it comes to sweeping changes like this.
The Bad About Legendary Weapon Ornaments
I have to say that there’s quite a bit of bad about adding more Legendary weapon Ornaments. We get three for a single weapon each season, and Guardians only go after them because they’re a requirement for Seasonal Challenges. I genuinely don’t think that enough Guardians care about these cosmetics to make adding more of them worthwhile.
Aside from that fact, I think that Bungie would monetize the heck out of this feature. Transmog is now a revenue stream for Bungie. It was meant to be something that would please Guardians, but now it’s just turned into a way for Bungie to generate a bit more cash to support ongoing development costs. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have to pay for cosmetics, but adding more Ornaments is just asking for trouble.
The only way I could see more Ornaments working is if each Legendary weapon had a free Ornament to unlock, and then Bungie added premium ones over time. That way, you can monetize every weapon without forcing Guardians to pay to get an Ornament on their favorite weapon, regardless of what it is.
