Destiny 2: How Will Dynamic Weather Affect Your Time On Europa?
Europa has storms. Get ready!
Recently Bungie outlined how weather is going to work on Europa. They went through a lot of different iterations, one that actually affected weapons, abilities, and Grenades, which sounds pants. The one they’ve settled on is a fully dynamic system that will keep Europa interesting long after Beyond Light launches. Are you ready for it though?
Dynamic weather has never been a thing in Destiny 2. Up until now we’ve just had set weather scripts. We actually discussed this last month, when a Guardian pointed out that there’s no dynamic weather on the Destiny Subreddit.
I’ve always thought that weather would make the worlds of Destiny 2 far more intersting. Some areas don’t suit it, such as the Tangled Shore, unless the weather is space matter floating on through.
On Europa though, there really is weather in real life, and there will be in Destiny 2 Beyond Light. It’s going to completely change the way we play depending on what stage a storm is at.
While there’s no sign of a storm, the air will be clear, as will the skies. It’ll be like taking a stroll anywhere in the system. However, as a storm begins to roll in, visibility is going to take a hit. Everything will become harder to see outside. When the storm arrives though, it’s all a blur. you can barely see anything.
I think that dynamic weather is going to make for some really interesting moments on Europa. We’ll be running around and suddenly find ourselves in a next of Fallen, or next to a building we didn’t know was there.
What makes Destiny 2 such an easy game to play is the layout of each world. We roughly all know where we’re going, because we play the content so much. The thing is, we won’t know all of this if there are storms rolling in every now and then on Europa. Only the most elite Guardians will know what they’re doing in the heat of a storm, and that changes everything.
I think this is the start of Bungie looking at other worlds and changing them to also include some sort of weather system. It might sound simple, but it will add so much to the game in terms of realism.
Let us know what you think in the comments.
