Iron Banner is back for the second time in Season of Opulence. We’ve put together our top tips for making the most of the event while it’s live, because there’s a lot you might not get right if you don’t prioritise, or think about the long-term goals of your Destiny 2 career. Let’s dive in with what this week’s Iron Banner is first.

Iron Banner Control

Iron Banner this week is all about capturing zones in Control. This has aways been my favourite Iron Banner mode, not just because it’s a little easier than Clash or Rumble, but because it allows for more teamwork and tactics in your gameplay.

If you’re not familiar, Iron Banner Control matches have two teams of six fighting against one another from opposite sides of various maps. There are three Control Zones that you need to capture as a team, A, B, and C. The more zones you have, the higher the points you receive for a kill. This makes it more viable to capture multiple zones before killing any enemy Guardians, and it’s almost detrimental to your team if you just run around killing enemies instead of focussing on capturing zones.

Iron Banner adds a twist to normal Control matches by locking zones off and buffing the score a team gets for kills once they’ve captured all three zones at once. The buff lasts for a short time, but it can really give you the advantage if you manage to get it even once in a match.

The best advice I can give you for Iron Banner Control matches is to capture two zones, and just hold those. As long as your team has at least two zones most of the time, they’ll be getting more points per kill than the enemy team, and will eventually win as long as they have two zones for the majority of the time.

Bounties

Lord Saladin will have Daily and Weekly Bounties for you to complete. Grabbing these and completing them will earn you Powerful Gear, and give you a boost towards new rewards from Lord Saladin himself. These might not be as powerful as some of your other gear, but I guarantee that they look incredible. Owning these before Armour 2.0 hits is crucial, because it means you can use them as ornaments on more powerful armour in the future, and that’ll mean you can look amazing forever.

Iron Banner Quest

For Season of Opulence we actually got a quest for Iron Banner. While it’s not the best quest in Destiny 2, it certainly is something that’s worth grinding for if you love the event and need some motivation. Personally, I’ve been grinding this quest since the first Iron Banner this season, and still have a lot to do this week. I believe that there should be one more Iron Banner this season, but there’s a chance there might not be with Shadowkeep on the way.

Crucible Pinnacle Weapon Quest

This season you can earn Revoker as the Crucible Pinnacle Weapon, but you need to earn a total of 3500 Glory points over the course of the season. There’s no confirmation on this, but it seems like Iron Banner does award some Glory points to Guardians who complete matches, meaning that you can be earning progress towards this quest whilst playing Iron Banner. Just to be clear, you don’t need to earn 3500 without losing points, you just need to cumulatively earn 3500 points over the course of Season of Opulence. If that’s not a good enough reason to play Iron Banner this week, I don’t know what is.

Those are all of our tips for Iron Banner this week. Let us know what your top tips for the event are in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
