Why Can’t You Get Your Own Vex Mythoclast in Destiny 2?

This weapon is ridiculous.

In case you’ve been sleeping on Season of the Lost for the past couple of weeks, there’s something massive going down that Guardians are getting steadily more annoyed about. Vex Mythoclast has been buffed in roughly seven different ways and has basically become a superpower in Destiny 2. The thing is, it’s increasingly difficult to acquire. This is a weapon that’s alluded Guardians for two games now, and they’ve had enough of it. If I’m honest, I’ve had enough of it, but what’s the problem exactly?

Vex Mythoclast only drops at the end of Vault of Glass. You have, according to those who understand all these stats, about a 1.6% chance of it dropping. With bac luck protection, we should be up to about 10%, but that’s just not the case. So far, Guardians are reporting that they’ve run all of the 48 available chances for this weapon and have come back empty handed. Sure, they’ve picked up other stuff, but Vex Mythoclast is still nowhere to be seen.

Some Guardians think that this is a case of one or two things being broken. The first that could be broken is the bad luck protection itself. Bungie already admitted in the past that it was implemented incorrectly, causing the chances of getting other weapons being basically wiped out. However, they fixed that, so they said. Since then though, we’ve had multiple seasons. It’s unclear if bad luck protection resets across seasons, but if it does, it means that most Guardians are back to having almost no chance of getting a Vex Mythoclast.

The other thing that could be broken is Vex Mythoclast itself. It’s possible that the weapon isn’t dropping for a specific reason and Bungie hasn’t caught that yet. To be fair, the company has been working away on things like The Witch Queen and Season of the Lost. It’s got enough going on.

The only advice I have is to keep trying to pick Vex Mythoclast up as long as you’re having fun in Vault of Glass. There’s no sense in playing the raid if you hate it, but if you love it, taking the chance to pick up a shiny new toy is always a good thing.

Let us know if you pick Vex Mythoclast up soon in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.

I’m at the point where I’ll just run an Atheon checkpoint on my 3 characters Tuesday night and then move on. I have no desire to play VoG otherwise. It’s become a weekly chore, which it shouldn’t be.

I guess I’ll rewrite my comment since you won’t post my first. The raid loses the fun after running it for the 42nd time with no raid exotic drop. But I’m not going to quit now because I’ve devoted this much time already. I did every triumph for the Fatebreaker seal last season except the one for getting Mythoclast. Having a Triumph based on RNG is unfortunate.

With approximately 50 looted clears, meaning clears that had the opportunity for a vex drop, I’d say bad luck protection is definitely not working. How hard is it to implement cumulative chance until first drop and reset to say 5% after the first drop? This isn’t new, I had 45 looted clears of DSC before getting eyes.
I love doing raids and am not going to stop because it’s broken, but this needs to be fixed.
