What Is Variks Doing In Beyond Light’s Story Trailer?
What the heck is Variks doing with Eramis?
The latest story trailer for Destiny 2 Beyond Light is a real winner. Instead of focusing on how powerful the Guardians are, it actually shines a light on how weak we are. We see Eramis converting her Fallen followers into Stasis-powered beasts, and can only scream as they freeze and break our bodies. There’s something else that’s quite important in this trailer, and that’s Variks.
Variks is hanging out with Eramis. This is actually something that’s backed up by a tiny bit of lore some Guardians have come across recently. It shows that Variks is on Europa with Eramis, but it’s unknown if he’s a co-conspirator, or a prisoner.
Variks has always been a questionable character in the Destiny universe. However, it’s important to remember that in Destiny 1 he was the guard for a prison full of other Fallen. He also wasn’t that nice to them either.
Since Destiny 1, Variks has clearly been hanging out with Eramis. From the sounds of things, it might have started out as a friendship. Things have clearly gone south now though. After this trailer debuted I saw Twitter feeds full of Guardians asking if we’d just seen Variks die.
I don’t think that Variks will be killed by Eramis. She might freeze him, but I’d do the same if I suspected someone of passing information to my enemies. That’s exactly what I believe Variks is doing.
Variks has never been stable. It’s what makes him such a great character. I really love the guy, even though he’s intensely creepy. He’s just got such a sparkling personality. He also comes out with some really profound comments, though they don’t always mean anything.
I know there will be a lot of you who believe that Variks is screwing us over, but I just can’t believe that. I think that when the Red War came, Varisk fled to Europa with Eramis. He was looking out for himself, and didn’t want to get caught in the crossfire of a war that wasn’t his.
Now, Variks has been forced to choose a side, and he’s chosen us. He’s still a questionable character, but he’s also still our friend. We need to step in to rescue him, and save the system from whatever it is that Eramis plans to do.
Let us know what you think in the comments.

Only reason I’m rescuing that four-armed coward is so I can put a bullet in his head. His weakness killed Cayde.
