We dive in deep looking at the brand new Hunter Subclass, Revenant.

Bungie has begun giving us a look at the new Stasis Subclasses coming with Beyond Light. Today we’re going to dive into the new Hunter Subclass, Revenant.

So what have we got here? Well we can see that scythe, Deadly Edge. When it hits, it shatters and seconds out a wave of deadly Stasis energy, freezing all nearby enemies. The second blade, Stasis Storm, will unleash a violent Stasis storm. this hones in on nearby enemies, slowing them down, damaging them, and eventually freezing them solid.

Withering Blade is the name of the throwing knife this Subclass equips. It sees the Revenant throw razor sharp shurikens outwards. These can bounce off of surfaces until they find a target, slowing them and causing damage when they land.

The Super appears to be called Silence and Squall. It sees the Revenant channel Stasis into two blades, which they then use to deadly effect.

Ice Ninja

Bungie has explained that the Revenant is the fantasy of an Ice Ninja brought to life in Destiny 2. The idea of this Subclass is that Hunters will be slowing the battlefield around them, making it easier for them to use their heightened agility to cause damage.

We’ll be able to customise the Subclass with consumables once the expansion is out. Using these we can add in abilities such as Shatterdive, which sees the Revenant drop down to the battlefield and shatter any enemies in the area of damage.

Other abilities provide passive benefits. For example, Whisper of Hedrons will give you a boost to weapon damage after you’ve frozen a target using Stasis.

Grenades Galore

Revenants are also going to have a choice of three distinct Grenades to take into battle with them in Beyond Light.

Glacier Grenade – This Grenade causes a wall of ice crystals to burst upwards from the ground on impact. Nearby enemies will be frozen in place. The Grenades can be used to cause damage, but they also make a barrier to hide behind. When the ice crystals are destroyed, they cause damage to any enemies too close to them.

Coldsnap Grenade – When this Grenade hits the ground, or an enemy, it will unleash waves of Stasis energy that penetrate the ground and surge forwards. They’ll chase the closest enemies and freeze them in place, with up to three being frozen before the energy runs out.

Duskfield Grenade – These Grenades create a powerful Stasis field, which will suck enemies into it while it’s forming. Once the field is formed, any enemies caught inside will be slowed. If they don’t make it out in time, they’ll be frozen as well.

All of this adds up to a brand new meaningful Hunter Subclass. The Hunter has never really been overlooked, it’s also my main Class. I think that Bungie has done a great job with the Hunter, but the last few Subclass expansions have felt empty.

Revenant really does sound like it’s going to mix things up though. I can see that a lot of Guardians are going to be reworking their strategies based around what it can do, and I can’t wait to see how that plays out.

Let us know what you think in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
