How Will Bungie Tackle the Destiny 2 PC Windowed Mode Issue?

Can you shut the window?

Destiny 2 is Slowly Getting There on PC

Over the weekend, Bungie really had to put its foot down when it comes to a brand new issue that’s been rising in prevalence. No, before you jump to conclusions, this is also not an issue that has anything to do with Telesto. Though I suspect some Guardians are probably using Telesto in conjunction with it just to maximize their chances of having some good luck vibes on the glitching front. No, this issue is completely linked with the PC version of Destiny 2, and it’s down to how you play that version rather than anything else.

You see, the PC version of Destiny 2 can, like almost every PC game, be played in windowed mode. On console, we have no idea what this means. It may as well be a foreign language. What it boils down to is that you can play it as a window. As in, you can grow or shrink that window and have other things running alongside it. Some Guardians use it for productivity. After all, there are tools like the Destiny 2 Armor Picker that you could be using alongside it to get the most out of your builds.

What PC Guardians can also do though, is hold the minimize button for some interesting results. Guardians have been sneakily using this for a while now. It allows them to basically glitch out the framerate of the game so that absolutely bonkers things begin to happen all over the place.

These glitches range from having a tonne of Orbs spawn so that you can quickly refill your Super, to enemy Guardian abilities not recharging properly, or even damage phases lasting forever instead of the short period of time they should. It’s honestly madness, and it keeps on happening without much in the way of repercussions. Until now that is.

So Destiny 2 is a game that punishes you for getting an error and leaving the game. It’s infuriating for those of us who aren’t cheating and have to wait for a day before we can play Crucible again, but it’s a system that exists to stop cheating like this from happening. Bungie piped up at the weekend to remind Guardians of this, but also point out that there would be more serious ramifications if Guardians kept spamming the glitch.

Let us know what you think about this glitch in the comments. It’s been around for so long that it’s just a part of the game, but it seems like it soon won’t be.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
