Destiny 2 Stasis Subclasses Trailer Gives Us A Deeper Look At Beyond Light’s Evolution

The new Subclasses look absolutely sub zero cool.

Yesterday’s livestream Gamescom 2020 event was awesome, but we all know that the only thing we were watching for was Destiny 2. Thankfully the game’s new trailer did not disappoint. In fact, I think it blew everything else out of the water. If you missed it, check it out below.

The trailer takes a little while to get going, showing off a few new enemy types, and the generally icy world of Europa. However, it then kicks off when we get to look a the new Stasis Subclasses.

Warlock – Shadebinder

The Shadebinder’s whole gimmick is being able to freeze enemies in place. We see this with both Fallen enemies, and other Guardians in the Crucible. It looks like anyone can shatter a frozen foe, as long as they get to them in time, but only testing out the Subclass when we get it will reveal the facts.

The Shadebinder has a staff of Stasis that looks absolutely magical. It appears to be used for both showering enemies with magical ice, and beating others over the head. It has a discharge attack that has a small area of attack, but looks to be more useful for shattering frozen enemies than actually dealing damage.

There is a larger area of effect attack that the Shadebinder can pull off. It freezes enemies in place, and can even shatter some.

Hunter – Revenant

The best new Subclass is obviously the Hunter’s Revenant. This is a fast-moving Subclass that throws a scythe of icy death into enemies. The projectile can pass through enemies, freezing and killing them as it does so. I don’t think it will be as effective against other Guardians, unless their health is quite low.

The Revenant can also throw a Grenade that pops up a field of Stasis. This freezes any who are inside it. The ranged melee attack is a boomerang of sorts that will bounce off of walls until it finds an enemy to hit. I can see the Crucible being absolutely ruled by this Subclass for a good long time. It explodes when it finally finds its target, and looks like it too could pass through enemies. I suspect there will be a limit based on how many bounces it’s done though.

Revenants can also create an area of Stasis effect by leaping into the ground with their scythe. This is a much more passive ability, freezing enemies ready to be shattered.

Titan – Behemoth

As is to be expected, Titans get the heavy-handed monster of a Subclass. Behemoths get a fist of Stasis that they can then pound into the ground. This will cause three paths of Stasis to spread out in front of them, freezing and killing the enemies caught in their path.

Behemoths also have a colossal jump lunge attack that will see them fly at an enemy, and wreck them with their icy Stasis fist.

Whilst the Behemoth doesn’t have an area of effect attack, it can create walls. There’s footage of a Behemoth using Stasis to protect themselves, and then causing damage by pushing up pillars of Stasis from the ground under a Guardian’s feet.

That’s all there is on the new Subclasses. Be sure to let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
