Destiny 2 Leaks Point to Vapour as the Next Element Guardians can use

A new Destiny 2 leak suggests that Bungie is working on a new element for Guardians to use in the game, and it’s going to be called Vapour. This comes from the most obvious place you’d expect, Raid Secrets, the users on which do great work dissecting all the files they find in every single Destiny 2 update. To date, the game has four elements, Solar, Void, Arc, and Stasis. Vapour would be the fifth, which makes sense if we look at what Bungie has done with Destiny 2 in recent expansions, but we can’t rely on that.

Beyond Light was the biggest expansion for Destiny 2 Bungie has ever made. It added Stasis as a new element and completely mixed the game up. The developer has spent a lot of time since that expansion’s launch fixing a number of issues that Stasis caused. However, for the most part, it was a good expansion. Stasis is okay as an element, but it’s certainly not key to the game. That’s because it needs a counterpart that matters.

Enter Vapour, or at least that’s what some Guardians think. The name was found in a 498-line document that’s been gaining traction since yesterday. This also isn’t the first time that these leaks have been mentioned, adding some credence to them. However, it should all be taken with several pinches of salt, mainly because Bungie likes to use codenames for this stuff because they know Raid Secrets will be all over it.

What I will say is that it makes sense that Bungie would plan to add a new element with The Witch Queen expansion. We’ll likely know more once the expansion is revealed next month, but until then we have to look at the evidence. Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 had three core elements for the majority of the Destiny universe’s existence. Beyond Light added a new one, and it drove the Guardian player base through the roof.

Bungie isn’t stupid, and it knows how to make money. That’s why transmog is such a heavily-monetized feature. If there isn’t a new element in The Witch Queen, I’d be extremely surprised. It could be part of why the expansion was delayed. Bungie has seen what it needs to do with new elements to make them better fit in the game, so it’s probably taking steps now to avoid extra work and bad press down the line.

Let us know if you think Vapour is real in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.

A friend of mine and I are big lore scholars and we have been looking into the lore and evidence we have to analyze the plausibility of these leaks. My friend suggested that Vapour makes sense because he thinks that each new darkness based element with share the first letter of its name with the light based counterpart. For example, Stasis and Solar share this pattern. Vapour and Void will also match, and personally I have this idea that Arc and a new subclass I have theorized that will be called Aether(fans of Thor the dark world will know where I’m coming from). Another theory I have made to coincide with the previous one was that each darkness element is going to be based upon a state of matter. With Stasis being a solid, Vapour being a gas, and the proposed Aether subclass will be a liquid.
