Could Prison Of Elders Return With Season Of The Worthy?

With Season of the Worthy being the next season that Destiny 2 will see after Season of Dawn, there’s a slight chance that we’ll be seeing the return of not just one beloved game mode but two. A point that Forbes recently raised delved into the fact that we’re probably going to be getting a decent chunk of new content for PVP fans, but what about those PVE fans?

With Season of the Worthy being the next season that Destiny 2 will see after Season of Dawn, there’s a slight chance that we’ll be seeing the return of not just one beloved game mode but two. A point that Forbes recently raised delved into the fact that we’re probably going to be getting a decent chunk of new content for PVP fans, but what about those PVE fans?

Trials of Osiris

Trials of Osiris is the PVP game mode that’s pretty much definitely returning with Season of the Worthy. this game mode was replaced by Trials of the Nine in Destiny 2, but Bungie took it away due to some serious bugs that they simply couldn’t fix. It was a horrific game mode to be part of, mainly because it was filled with cheats who were getting a win for every match with no losses, defeating the point of the entire game mode.

While the return of this game mode is going to be huge for PVP fans, it does nothing for PVE fans, which is what Forbes pointed out in their article. They also, quite rightly, pointed out that Trials of Osiris came along with Prison of Elders, a distinctly PVE activity that also contained one activity that was as hard as any raid in Destiny.

Prison of Elders

There is a slight problem in that the Prison of Elders took a beating in the intro to Forsaken, but it’s still intact. We’ve also not seen anything from the Prison of Elders vendor, Variks, for a long time, though he could return with Season of the Worthy. The fact that Bungie is focussing on PVP this year does indicate that Trials of Osiris will be the only game mode to return with the next season, but they can’t ignore all of the PVE Guardians who love the grind of killing smaller enemies.

Luckily, Forbes also pointed out one final think that makes it likely that Season of the Worthy is going to return to a Fallen focus. With Season of the Drifter we had a Taken enemy focus, Season of Opulence looked at the Vex and Hive, as did Shadowkeep, but Season of Dawn looked at the Cabal and Vex.

Maybe the Vex will somehow come into play with the Prison of Elders. They could be looking for an older version of Prince Uldren, who we know has no idea who he is anymore. The Vex don’t seem to care too much about time and space, so they might just open up a hole directly into the Prison of Elders and unleash all kinds of hell on the system.

Only time will tell if Bungie is bringing Prison of Elders back, but I for one really hope that they do. Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
