Crucible Labs Featured Mode Is Showdown
Yesterday Bungie announced this week’s featured mode for Crucible Labs, one of the many improvements being made to Destiny 2 as part of Season 3. In Crucible Labs Bungie put certain Crucible Modes up for players to experience and give feedback on, which may affect whether or not the mode will make it into the main playlists some day or go back to the drawing board.
Showdown is a completely different mode to what we’re used to in Destiny games. Teams are made up of four Guardians each, and the goal is to get as many kills in a round as possible, this will rack up points. The overall goal is then to win as many rounds as possible by killing as many enemy Guardians as possible.
Killing an enemy is worth one point, and the Respawn timer seems to be similar to that of other modes such as Rumble, meaning reviving is quick and respawning is too. This is important in order to keep Guardians on the map to both earn and make points for each team throughout the match. That respawn and revive timer is probably what will change the most if this mode makes the move to the main playlists, as I’m sure Guardians will have an issue with it.
Showdown is the first real mode that pretty much tasks Guardians with slaughtering the enemy team in as many numbers as possible. Other similar modes rely on Guardians working together as a team in order to build up points, but this is all out warfare on a completely different scale.
The types of weapons that will work best for this mode are probably ones that will destroy enemies as quickly as possible before they can get any shots back in on you. I’m thinking about weapons such as Vigilance Wing and possibly even Sleeper Simulant.
Feedback from this Crucible Labs event will shape how the mode is changed in the future, so anyone taking to the Destiny Subreddit needs to really think about what they’re saying because Bungie is definitely watching! Focus on the major changes that need to be made, not the small things that are just minor annoyances because they’ll probably be balanced with playtesting on the developer’s side. Let us know what you think of Showdown in the comments.
