Will Guardians Form a Resistance Against Lakshmi in Destiny 2’s Next Season?

There’s a lot of stuff heating up in Destiny 2 at the moment. Everyone seems to think that Lakshmi actually has a chance of winning the upcoming coup, and I think I believe them. The thing is, Destiny 2’s seasons have always had stories with an ending that’s pretty obvious from the start. With The Almighty, we were given a look at what happens when a giant space station is hurled at Earth. Of course, the Guardians stopped it, and that was pretty much guaranteed. While seeing the Traveler heal itself out of nowhere was fun, it wasn’t a properly game-changing end to a season. With Season of the Splicer, I think that’s all set to change though.

The thing bout Season of the Splicer and Destiny 2 storytelling in general right now is that it’s building to something. War is palpable in the air. You can literally feel the tension as you wade through it around all the vendors and spaces in the Tower. Something big is going to happen, but I don’t think it’s going to go the way we all expect. Sure, it would be fine and dandy if Zavala won and took out Lakshmi, exiling her to be powerless once more. I don’t see that happening though. In fact, I see the opposite.

Lakshmi is the sort of extremist that can garner a huge following and have those followers do whatever she wants. There’s nothing to it with her. She says a few words, whether she believes them or not, and then causes a huge shift in the community. She has power in her limited capacity, and I think that’s what’s going to force Zavala out at the end of this season.

However, I think this plays into the rebuilding of the old Tower somehow. I think that Guardians will be forced to join a resistance against Lakshmi. Surely she can’t be all she’s cracked up to be, and Guardians will want to bring things back to the way they were. That’s why I think next season will be very different.

Imaging it. We’ll be in the old Tower, which work will have halted on, scheming against Lakshmi and trying to find out how exactly we can remove her from power. There’s not just the Guardian community to consider here, there’s the entire Last City. People are going to be forced to go through a small war here, and it’s going to kill some of them. I can’t wait to see if this resistance comes, and I really hope it does.
