Thank You Deej | A Touching Fan Tribute
Enjoy this amazing tribute to Deej, the best community manager we’ve ever had.
If you’ve been looking at the Guardian community over on Reddit over the last week, you may have come across this already. I wanted to showcase it for all of our readers though. This is a video from a Guardian, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a tribute from them to Deej, one of the greatest community managers I’ve ever seen in the industry. I think all that matters is that he’s been dedicated to Destiny from the start though, and we all love him dearly.
Deej isn’t the only face of Destiny 2 at all. To say that would undermine all of the work that countless developers, programmers, testers, marketing professionals, and so many more job titles I don’t know put into this franchise.
However, Deej has been the face of Destiny for its entire existence. He’s been the one that we’ve been able to message on Twitter, and he’d respond. Now of course, there are multiple people who we can turn to on Twitter, but none of them are as well-loved as Deej.
I love this tribute because it captures the moments the community made the most of around him. He is and always will be the ultimate Guardian dad. He was funny, introduced us to knowledgeable individuals to further our interests, but was always there for us.
I remember Deej best from the Destiny livestreams. Bungie used to do three big livestreams leading up to their yearly expansion, and Deej would wear an incredible shirt to each and every one. He was always the highlight, even though he was putting the spotlight on other people.
I have no idea what Deej is moving onto, but I wish him well I think all Guardians do, and if he ever works on another game I’ll probably be jumping onto it.
For now though, let’s just remember how great this guy has been as a community manager. He’s part of why Destiny survived the early days of heavy criticism. He’s probably the reason that many of us stuck around, or came back when we heard something about some new content. He is a part of Destiny’s soul, and we’ll always remember him for that.
