Destiny 2 Needs a Less Hardcore Trials of Osiris

Give the rubbish Guardians something they can do Bungie!

I know what you’re about to say, or have already said upon looking at the title of this piece, “just don’t play Trials of Osiris you baby.” That’s the problem. Destiny 2 is an accessible game in almost every way. It’s got so much going for it, and yet there’s still this one part of the game that alludes many of us, myself included. Trials of Osiris is not for the weak. It’s a hardcore mode in which the best of the best PvP crowd compete for victory. No one else can even try because of how good all the Guardians in there are. That’s why we need a less hardcore version to play.

I’m not asking for Trials of Osiris itself to be altered. It’s clear that Bungie isn’t going to do that, and everyone seems to be having fun trading wins already so that’s fine. Leave the community as it is. But Bungie, there’s nothing for the PvP fans who want something between the Crucible and Trials of Osiris. We either have to sit in the Crucible playlist all day or get hammered by the pros in Trials of Osiris. We need a middle ground.

There are loads of ways this could be achieved. For example, Iron Banner could introduce an event that’s basically Trials of Osiris, but it’s open for everyone. Make it so that there’s no ultimate reward for going flawless. As long as you make it to nine total wins and less than three losses, you get the best loot. It can be worse than the loot from Trials of Osiris, that’s fine, but we just need something.

The beauty of adding this extra activity in is that it’ll make Trials of Osiris much more accessible in the end. If Guardians are getting meaningful practice in an even that happens multiple times per season, they’re more likely to try out Trials of Osiris. As it is, you just have the same Guardian community in the game mode who ask Bungie for the same stuff all the time. New blood will change this.

A nice side effect of this addition could also be to finally switch up Iron Banner. It’s been boring since Destiny 1, let’s have something different for the next few years. I really can’t take any more Control matches Bungie, they’re destroying me.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
