Merciless Has Been A Broken Destiny 2 Exotic Since November 2020
It’s a useless Exotic, so why isn’t it being fixed?
Bungie might well be back on the updates after a holiday break, but there’s one aspect of Destiny 2 that’s been broken since about a month before the Christmas period. That aspect is the Exotic Fusion Rifle Merciless. It’s a really enjoyable Exotic to mess around with in all areas of Destiny 2, but it hasn’t been working for a while now, and it’s starting to become a real issue.
What’s The Problem With Merciless?
As an Exotic weapon, Merciless has an interesting Intrinsic Perk that should set it apart from all the other weapons in Destiny 2. This weapon is meant to charge faster with every non-lethal hit you make on an enemy. It’s mean to encourage Guardians working to assist their fireteam by dealing damage, but leaving the kills to someone else.
The issue with this weapon is that as of November 2020, the Intrinsic Perk stopped working. The charge rate doesn’t increase with non-lethal hits. It’s just a normal, though better-looking, Fusion Rifle.
Searching around on Bungie’s forums, you can see here that Bungie were made aware of, and acknowledged, the issue in November last year. Admittedly, Bungie has had a lot of their plate since November with the release of Beyond Light. Still, they’ve been quick enough to remove weapons before so they can work on them, why not do that with Merciless so they at least appear to be addressing the issue?
Reddit user Kumakobi posted about Merciless last week, asking why Bungie still hadn’t addressed the problem. As far as we know, Bungie is still working on a bunch of other stuff, but to date they’ve not said anything about Merciless.
It’s possible that one of the many updates issues since Beyond Light has messed up Merciless. This has happened with other weapons before, with issues being caused by updates. It’s something that Bungie is usually quick to fix when the weapon opens up an unfair advantage. In the case of unfair disadvantages though, Bungie’s support is sorely lacking.
However, we need to remember that everyone at Bungie is now working from home. It’s much harder to work on a game like this, as the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 should attest to. While I think we should give Bungie some slack, if they don’t fix this issue soon, they’re blatantly ignoring something that they really should have fixed by now.
Let us know what you think of Merciless in the comments.

I like the gun but haven’t used it because of that issue. I only use it now for times when I might need a solar fusion weapon bounty.
