Don't Cap Infusions In Destiny 2, Just Remove The Items

Destiny 2 has an annoying feature that I think most Guardians could do without. It’s called the Infusion Cap. This is the maximum Power Level at which you can infuse a weapon or piece of gear to. It’s become an issue that sees my Vault and inventory clogged with gear and weapons that I’m not sure what to do with, and it’s driving me mad.

Infusion Caps were introduced into Destiny 2 because some weapons and pieces of gear need to be removed as Bungie add new ones in. When the Infusion Cap is hit, Guardians will stop using that gear. This, Bungie believes, will slowly see the items fall out of use. At that point, they can feel safe in adding more new items in, because they can safely remove all the stuff that Guardians aren’t using.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen a lot of Guardians out there telling Bungie to outright remove these items instead of putting these Infusion Caps on them. It will make life so much easier for all Guardians if this was the case.

I quite like the idea of Bungie removing a wide range of weapons and gear with every yearly expansion. This would give them the chance to take out weapons they want to rework, or ones that no one is using, and make space for new content that will be added over the next year.

Bungie plans out all of their seasons in advance, so they must have a specific number of weapons and gear that they’ll add in with each. It would be so much easier if Guardians just got new content from the start of a year until its end. Sure, there will be those who complain about weapons being removed, but there were Guardians who complained about planets and moons being removed.

It’s a necessary evil, and it’s not forever, Bungie has already shown us what they can do by Vaulting content and reworking it. I think that it’s time that they were harsher and pulled back as much content as they wanted each year to make space for better stuff in our inventories.

We all complain about the useless or overpowered weapons and Exotics. This is Bungie’s chance to begin a process that shifts them out each year.

Let us know what you think in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.

You are wrong on this and don’t speak for those of us that play the game in a different way. I play this game because I love it. Started 1st day of issue D1. I like having guns that I can rely on to complete missions. I thought Destiny was supposed to be big enough for all of us and not just Raids and growing into infinite. I have yet to find a rocket launcher that works as well as Sins of the Past. So it goes with many guns in retirement. Out right removing serves a game where no one is ever satisfied. I guess that is the money making end of it… but there are plenty of us that play it for the thrill of being a Guardian. I rarely Raid any more… I am too much of a burden for those high power go for it get it done folks. I just stay away. i wish for the cool gear but because I am a professional in my career, rarely have time for these things. Destiny use to be a game with a vision. Now its a streaming service with a profit margin. Good for Bungie but not for Veteran players. Sad. However, Mass Effect will change that for many of us.

Ive been playing since D1 beta and I too disagree whole heartedly with this article. Not only did I have my ‘set’ of guns that I was comfortable, with good stats, attuned to my type of playing, etc. I had armor as well same type of situation, armor thats from the now missing planets, but apparently its ‘lame’ now to miss 90% of the game bungie trashed. Anyway, to top it off the weapons and armor you get from the remaining planets, besides the $50 sparrow ride through an empty snowglobe of a disappointment aka europa, and exotics- any old raid gear newly aquired from chests,is useless as well. The point we veteran players who actually CARE where our hard earned money and hours of time spent go, is that we INVESTED in this stupid game. But at the end of the day…bungie doesn’t give a FLYING FLUFF now do they? Lol All about those dollar bills right?

Caps should not exist. My opinion is that mod components should be spendable in all the weapon characteristic fields thus a truly customized weapon suited a guardian’s need/desire.

This is a really bad take. Since beyond light ive ran dozens of lfgs on d2 pc and when ever the topic of sunsetting came up “just remove the items” was never the solution people suggested this is the first ive heard of it no one wants sunsetting. Sunsetting is bungies lazy solution to fixing the balance of the game they dont play test. The real solution is for them to think about how mechanics in the game work when putting in new gear with new rolls or roll combos. The fact that slug shotguns out dps most heavys against raid bosses is a clear indicator that they dont think things throughly enough. The only reason sunsetting is happening is because of crucible of course there is pve shennanigans but those shennaigans entailed doing a tedious and difficult process of unlocking the mountain top but a prime example of nerfs being tied to crucible is the nova warp supers usage since its big nerf no one uses it and now luke smith is saying they may sumset supers….. from premium content….. sunsetting is lazy and shouldnt be done or it should be implemented in a way that if you already own the gun it wont be sunset. Basically if you snooze ya lose like in D1

This game has enough money behind it that you can’t be sure all the extreme support reviews are from actual players (yes I mean bots/ paid reviews) since every time there is a legitimate dislike of underhanded money siphoning tactics and someone says something about it there is always a random account representing direct and ignorant backlash. Destiny is well built but also over priced and the developers know this which is why this game manages to continue. Because it tricks avid fans of the series into thinking they are getting their moneys worth, which they are not. Problem is these avid Destiny players are also quite proud of their game and their accounts so they will never concede any valid point against them.
