What Does the Destiny 2 Stingray Error Code Mean?

There are a plethora of error codes in Destiny 2. None of them are self-explanatory, but that’s for a very good reason. The animal an error code relates to makes it easier to identify on Bungie’s help pages. This is why you’ll get some incredibly random error codes while you play this game. Lately, a new one has started to rear its head, and I think it’s all to do with the upcoming implementation of crossplay in Destiny 2. Only time will tell, but for now, let’s explain what the Stingray error code means in Destiny 2.

What does the Destiny 2 Stingray Error Code Mean?

Stingray is a type of connection issue error for Guardians. Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean that your internet connection is necessarily pants, though that could be part of it. Instead, this error code specifically relates to Guardians who are not signed in on their platform account. This might seem silly, because you can’t very well sign in with your PlayStation Network account on Steam right? Well, there is another side to this error code.

The other half of this error is that it’ll appear when your platform network is down or undergoing maintenance. Therefore, you should look to see if the PlayStation Network, Steam, Stadia, or Xbox network are down before you jump in and start badmouthing Bungie.

Ultimately, there’s very little that you can do about this issue. It’s almost certainly all going to be due to the network you’re linked to in terms of platform, not your internet provider. Suck it up and wait for the netowrk to be back online so you can jump back in and start playing Destiny 2 once more.

I do think that there’s a degree of Season 15 interfering here. Next season, crossplay is coming to Destiny 2. I reckon that some of the Stingray error codes we’re seeing now will be down to Bungie working on crossplay in the background, and that’s why we’re seeing so many of this particular error popping up. I could be wrong, but it seems like a likely culprit considering the error code has never been that prevalent before.

Let us know if you’ve been getting the Stingray error code in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
