The Assassination Attempt On Zavala In Destiny 2 This Week Was Interesting
What is going on with the Cabal?
After logging into Destiny 2 this week you were probably greeted by a new cutscene. I actually really enjoyed this one because it was more of that gorgeous artwork still storytelling from the intros to both Destiny games. In it, Zavala is almost assassinated by a Psion, but then Crow saves him. This whole thing is very interesting for a few reasons, so let’s unpack exactly what’s going on here.
Zavala Meets Crow?
In the lore story, Zavala believes that he hallucinated Crow. Afterwards, Guardians are treated to Osiris scolding Crow for removing his mask in the Last City. This is, to be fair, an extremely stupid move on his part. Zavala probably would have put a bullet in his head if he’d realised Crow was real. Luckily, Osiris and us are the only ones who know who Crow really is, and where he’s hiding out.
From here, I think we can see where this is going. Eventually, probably by the end of the Season of the Chosen, Zavala will realise that Uldren Sov is back in the Last City. There will almost certainly be a rift between the two, but in the end, it’ll probably be okay. Still, this is quite an interesting turn of events.
Caiatl’s Assassin?
The second thing that’s quite interesting is the fact that the Cabal, a race well known for their honor, has sent an assassin to kill Zavala. This isn’t a move that a revered warlord among a warrior race would do. In fact, it’s downright dishonorable. Which begs the question, why did they do it?
Caiatl has taken over the Destiny 2 Twitter account, and she has a lot to say on the matter.
So as you can see, she’s very much of the opinion that she wouldn’t use shadow tactics to take her foes down. She’s all about getting up in their grill and watching the light fade from their eyes. So if it wasn’t her, who was it?
Cabal Fracture
That’s where we get onto the final interesting point to come out of this week’s new story beat. The Cabal are clearly fracturing. With Guardians Fighting back against them and killing every potential general who could lead an army against the Last City, they’re getting pissed.
If nothing else, I would say that a small faction of Cabal is working to try to take Zavala down so that we take a break and let them regroup. At worst, we may be looking at a coup. If another Cabal leader rises up and takes Caiatl’s place, then we’ll have a much more dishonorable foe in our midst. they’d probably have no qualms with obliterating us from orbit, which isn’t what we need.
Let us know what you think of the new story in Destiny 2 this week, and what you think is happening behind the scenes, in the comments.
