Destiny 2 The Witch Queen Reveal Event Summary

Savathun is here.

Destiny 2 The Witch Queen Reveal Event Summary

Yesterday, Bungie officially revealed Destiny 2 The Witch Queen in its full glory, and it was fantastic. I’m a sucker for all of these expansions and cutscenes that we get given by the game’s developer, but this one really hit home with me. It feels like a return to The Dark Below of Destiny 1, something I plowed hours into, and now I’m going to plow even more hours into this expansion. This article is a short summary of everything that was revealed in case you missed it.

The Witch Queen

Obviously, the first thing on show was the expansion itself. This is a new major expansion for the game, containing a whole new area to explore. It’s a huge fortress where Savathun has created her own race of dark Hive Guardians. They’ve got all the same powers as us, except it looks like they don’t have Stasis. To kill them, we’ll be killing their Hive Ghosts as well as the actual creatures themselves.

The expansion will be followed by four seasons, as you’d expect, and there’s generally going to be lot of the same Destiny 2 content we’ve experienced over the last year. All of that is essentially the same, but Savathun-style.

Glaives

All Guardians will get a Glaive in this expansion, but they’ll be crafting it. Weapon crafting is actually an entirely new feature with The Witch Queen, and there’s going to be an ever-expanding roster of weapons that we can all craft. It looks like there will be a collection to build up, but I’m not 100% sure on that just yet so don’t hold me to it.

Bungie 30th Anniversary

There’s going to be a big 30th anniversary party inside Destiny 2 for Bungie’s birthday. This will be a celebration of everything Bungie has done. In a way, I think this is the crossover that was teased in the lead up to Gamescom. Of course, it doesn’t look like there will be any specific items just yet, but I’m anticipating a plethora of them to show up as soon as this event nears.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape

This is the expansion after Lightfall. It reads to me like Bungie is doubling down on the shape of the Traveler and the Pyramids. I have no idea what this is going to be, but something tells me it will be a third force that’s out to take the Traveler, destroy the Darkness, and create a new sort of universe by itself.

That’s all that was on show at the event. Let us know what your favourite part was in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
