Destiny 2 Forsaken Gamescom 2018 Trailer Shows Cayde-6’s Tragic Last Stand

This week is Gamescom 2018 and if you haven’t been tuning in already, why the heck not Guardian? Bungie is out in force at the event, having spoken to IGN about features coming out in Fosaken including Gambit and The Dreaming City.

However, the really exciting things that Bungie has been leading up to happened today, a new trailer for Destiny 2 Forsaken. The cinematic is completely heartbreaking and made me want to cry, but it’s a necessary evil so we can access this new latest expansion. Check out the trailer below.

To recap on what we see, Cayde-6 is awoken by his Ghost, having been beaten up somewhat. He then proceeds to take down a number of Scorn Dregs whilst being generally brilliant, although sometimes accidentally, around a ruined Prison of Elders. He gets overpowered though, and soon he’s resorting to his Super abilities, using the Gunslinger and the all new path, Way of a Thousand Cuts. The Super looks great, but Cayde-6 is beaten by the end. When he asks his Ghost for a little help he sees it shatter as the Rifleman shoots it from a vantage point. The Hangman then comes at Cayde-6 and hits him through a wall with that big fiery mace.

The moment that made my heart shatter was when Cayde-6 said, “I’m coming home ace”. Those words have never meant more to the Destiny universe than right then, and they’ll be remembered by Guardians forever.

The trailer shows how serious Bungie is about killing this character off, and if it wasn’t obvious that’s Nolan North voicing him and not Nathan Fillion. The reason for the switch is probably because contracts have now ended with the original voice actor, whether that’s because he’s got more stuff on that he needs to do or Bungie chose to let him go is anyone’s guess.

Deej, in his interview with IGN today, was adamant about how dead Cayde-6 is in Forsaken. It’s questionable whether the character will return in some form later down the line as Cayde-7, after all that’s what happens with Exo, but no one really knows what’s going to happen. Let us know you thoughts about the new trailer in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.

Wow did not know NN did Cayde’s voice in the trailer. Yeah the “I’m coming home Ace” hit me hard. Theres been tons of debates whether he will return or not with some saying he’ll be rebooted, others saying he’s gone for good. I really hope Bungie isn’t pulling a stunt because my emotions can’t handle it. Of all the Guardians they pick the coolest one to die. I would give Ikora, Zavala and throw in Tess and Brother Vance in trade to bring back Cayde. I feel he’s gone for good and cannot wait to avenge him!
