Destiny 2 Coup De Grace Bug Requires Patience

Earlier this week, the mission that brings an end to all those High Celebrant hunts was released. Coup De Grace sees you finally hunt down and kill this enemy, and it’s a big step forward for the first season of this year of Destiny 2. However, many Guardians have been reporting that the mission glitches out, preventing them from completing it. Bungie has since reached out with a solution that doesn’t require a patch or any downloads.

As you can see, all that’s needed is a bit of patience. As long as Guardians take a breather, they’ll still be able to complete the mission. That might sound mad in a game where every second you aren’t dealing damage could see you die, but it’s something that you need to be prepared for.

Specifically, Bungie has put out two pieces of advice for this mission. The first is to simply take your time when dealing damage to the High Celebrant. This enemy requires quite a lot of damage in order to be downed, but it seems like most Guardians are damaging the boss way too quickly. This could be something to do with Bungie’s underestimation of how powerful Guardians are at this point.

In practice, this probably looks like Guardians firing off a few rounds, then waiting longer than the normal reload speed before damaging the boss any further.

Second, Bungie says that we should be waiting for a few seconds before damaging the Black Blight Orb. This object is annoying, but it seems like you’ve got to let it be for just a little while before you shoot it and get rid of it entirely.

I wonder if Guardians working together, as so often happens, is actually the problem here. It could be how Guardians are dealing more damage than Bungie expects, which causes the glitch.

On that glitch, I believe it’s a simple issue of Destiny 2 not being able to register all the damage you’re dealing, even when the boss is dead. This creates a fail state for the mission, even though you’ve actually completed it correctly.

Hopefully Bungie fixes this soon because it’s super annoying. Let us know what you think in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
