Who Is Shaw Han?

Last week Bungie revealed a brand new character in the Destiny universe, Shaw Han. He’s part of a new system that’s going to make life for new Guardians a heck of a lot easier, but who is he? This is all the community has been discussing since the Bungie article released, so let’s dive into it.

As we posted last week, Guardians are finding it difficult to follow Destiny 2’s storyline. This is partly because of how much content is in the game, and the lack of direction when there’s a new priority each day, but also because the game has never actually been super clear about where you need to go next.

When new Guardians step into Destiny 2 on the next console generation, they’re going to be starting their journeys fresh. Some of us might choose to do exactly the same. Whilst the norm right now is for Guardians to head out, find a ship, and then head to the Tower, there’s something new coming with Beyond Light. That new thing is Shaw Han.

So when Guardians now start up a new game in Destiny 2, they’ll be greeted by Shaw Han. He’s a Guardian who is out with his Fireteam investigating what the Hive are doing in the Cosmodrome. It sounds new and interesting, and it seems like a good new direction to head in for this intro sequence to the game.

As opposed to Guardians listening to their Ghost and running through a series of short missions in order to get their ship, Shaw Han will guide them. As a new Guardian, it’s Han’s duty to get them safely to where they need to be in order to fight against the Darkness.

Many Guardians believe that Shaw Han is in fact Prince Uldren! Since Guardians lose their memories when they awaken from death, it makes total sense that he has no idea who he is. It also makes sense that he’s now part of a Fireteam doing bits and pieces for the Vanguard.

We’ve already speculated that Uldren will be a new vendor in the Cosmodrome. This would seem to prove otherwise, aside from the fact that Uldren wouldn’t know his own name. He may have chosen Shaw Han as a new name, and is now living life on the edges of society, away from where everyone seems to hate him.
