Why You Should Get The Mountaintop In Season Of The Forge (Season 5)

Of the three Pinnacle weapons revealed for the Season of the Forge in Destiny 2, The Mountaintop is possibly the best for a couple of reasons. But why should you bother with all of the effort required to get it this season?

Well part of the reason The Mountaintop is worth it this season is the inordinate amount of effort required to even earn it in the first place. The quest to The Mountaintop is as follows:

  1. Reach a Glory rank of Brave during season 5: This first step is pretty damn simple, it only requires you to reach the second rank in Glory rating, which you need to earn 200 Glory points for. To do this play Crucible matches in the Competitive playlist.
  2. Get 750 points worth of Grenade Launcher final blows, 200 points worth of Double Plays, and 100 points worth of Calculated Trajectory medals: This is where things get a little trickier, and while none of these have to be completed in the Competitive playlist the point rewards are greater if earned there. Grenade Launcher kills are worth 10 points in the Competitive playlist, and 3 outside of it. Grenade Launcher Double Plays are worth 5 points, and 2 points for subsequent kills after it, in the Competitive playlist, and 2 points, 1 point for subsequent kills, outside of the playlist. Finally, Calculated Trajectory medals are worth 4 points in the Competitive playlist, and 1 point outside of it.
  3. Reach Fabled rank in the Competitive playlist: In order to hit this rank you need to earn 2100 Glory points, no easy feat. This basically requires you to sit in the Competitive playlist and complete matches until the goal of Fabled has been reached.

Here’s the thing though, once you’ve done all this and have earned The Mountaintop, you’ve done one of the hardest seasonal quests around. The Mountaintop isn’t just a great weapon, it’s a symbol of your commitment to Destiny 2, and the effort you’ve put in. On top of that, most Guardians probably won’t earn The Mountaintop but will know what it is, so every kill gives you the satisfaction of knowing that your enemy can see how dedicated you are.

The perks on The Mountaintop make it completely individual, and separate from every other Grenade Launcher; Sticky Grenades, which makes the projectiles stick to enemies and surfaces and detonate when enemies are in proximity, Rangefinder, which increases the projectile range, and Micro-Missile, which increases the projectile speed once again, but makes them fire in a completely straight line like a rocket.

Each of these perks builds The Mountaintop up to be a colossal pain in the ass for anyone on the receiving end of it. I don’t think I’ve ever really seen a weapon that’s been quite so brutal.

Let us know what you think of The Mountaintop, and if you’re planning on trying to get it this season, in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
